Basically, I record games with Dxtory. I use the same settings for nearly every game, and they all record perfectly fine at 30 FPS, and I can watch the raw clips over to see.
But then, Sony Vegas decides that for certain games, it doesn't want to render the video correctly. I feel like this shouldn't even be possible... but it's no coincidence. It consistently messes up renders for certain games and certain games only. Namely, CS:GO, Just Cause 2, and Saints Row: The Third.... Again, these can be recorded and watched at a perfect 30 FPS, but once it goes through the rendering process for Sony Vegas, it gets this cluster of lag spikes in random locations that last for 30 seconds to a minute. It's not consistently throughout the video; generally it happens once or twice for 30 or so seconds somewhere in the video, but the rest is fine. This issue doesn't arise for really any other game recordings... just these few games.
Does anyone have an explanation/know of a possible fix? I've tried re-downloading Vegas.. no fix. I've tried re-rendering the videos... it just has lag spikes in the exact same spots. I just can't for the life of me find out how to get this working.
This is one of many issues with DXTory, and why I do not recommend it.
It cannot record certain games properly. It just will not. There are simply no workarounds, it is so horribly coded that it randomly runs into issues even through exactly identical setups for seemingly no reason at all.
While you might or might not be able to play the raw files back, when vegas attempts to re-encode them it runs into problems, and thus produces errors.

Record with Fraps instead for those games.
But, if I remember correctly, one of the reasons I switched to Dxtory from Fraps is because Fraps was causing similar issues back in the day. Either way, I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Also, do you think there's a way I could maybe re-encode it (by means of some other program) to something more Vegas-friendly?

If both DXTory and Fraps cause the issue I can't really say. Maybe reinstalling vegas and re/uninstalling any codec packs might work. If that still doesn't work...... updating GPU drivers maybe? Both depend on them to record.
If you mean re-encoding the footage you already have for a vegas-friendly format, this should be possible to do with another program. And there is a chance when you re-encode it this way that the errors won't show up in vegas.
Things like windows live movie maker, virtualdub or another video converter.

Well, when I got my new harddrive, I had to do a clean install of windows. So I basically reinstalled everything, including codecs, Vegas, drivers, etc. so everything should be dandy there. However, I don't think I've used Fraps for any of these games since I reinstalled everything, so maybe the issue is fixed now for Fraps, I'll have to check.

Alright I may give this a shot and see what comes up.
Also, for Vegas, is it possible that rendering to certain formats is an issue? Or do you think it wouldn't really make a difference whether I did mp4, wmv, etc.?
Oh and, I'd also like to note that most of the time, these issues did not occur right off the bat. So, with CS:GO and Just Cause 2, they originally worked perfectly fine with rendering... but then after some time and more renders, it started acting up more and more like this. I'm not sure if this info really changes anything previously said, but I thought it might be something to mention.
EDIT: I also have a partially off-topic question, but do you know of a good way to record the Binding of Isaac? Dxtory and Fraps don't pick it up. But you can record the whole screen and crop it down if you use Fraps, which is what I've been doing. The problem is, this causes some graphical glitchiness and lag spikes (during the recording, not render-wise). I have tried the Camtasia trial and it seemed even worse. I've been looking up how to get this recorded adequately but I can never find any information on it.

Possible, but hard to say. Only way to tell is to try rendering.

Binding of Isaac is a flash game I believe, so you would need to use FRAPS and record DWM with the window maximized (not fullscreen).
There's not really any good way to record flash games. If you have graphical issues..... I'm not sure why, I've never seen them, they are likely related to whatever other issue you have.

It does at least mean that all of these issues stem from one thing.
What that is I can't say right now, but it is definitely one thing causing all of this.

Alright, well I re-rendered one of the videos I was having trouble with to mp4 instead of wmv. And it seemed to have resolved the issue. I don't know if this will always be the fix, but it did the trick this time.

For some reason I read that as if you were a tense cop on a homicide case and just found another piece of evidence. I don't know who's responsible for the murders... but I do know one thing. They were all committed by the same person.
