I have been asking my Mother "When are we getting new internet?" a lot lately, and the prices are pretty good (including TV) for both... I was looking at Xfinity for the 20 MB download/s and 5 upload/s with tv.
I'm not fully sure on how many channels my family watch... They usually go through almost random channels. They go to the ones with many movies like TNT (maybe, I don't know I don't watch tv as much as I used to ever since I got my computer back 9 months ago...
Plus, we're on AT&T right now, and one thing is... It's not good. It feels like I'm renting something Apple would sell... Except internet.. We have like a 10 mb/s upload, and 1 mb/s upload. Also if someone records their shows, I get literally like 10-100 kb/s I get ticked off, but downloading games at this rate is so annoying...

If you're going comcast, you're in for a fun ride.
i bet comcast doesn't lose that many packets however, been like this for a month and they won't do a thing about it "because it's within your paid for speeds"

Depends on the weather.
Also that has nothing to do with speed, I would have them call a tech out for an unrelated problem and explain to the tech when he's over.

i tried to get em to send a tech, but they said it's within speed, i try to tell them it has nothing to do with speed and he just went "huh?" not much i can do since i'm not on the account, parents wont file a complaint because they don't ever use anything that it effects

What's packet loss? I haven't learned much about internet providers so much... I'd like to be told what all of this stuff is, also you use comcast? Or something better?

we have ATT DSL, packet loss is when data is sent but not all of it is recieved, and you can notice it, more so when trying to play any game as it looks like your warping around the map, really not pleasant thing to deal with and anything above 0 is bad

Well, that's not good... Thanks for telling me! Looks like they have bad packet lose rates...

jesus ing christ... that is horrible. I am sitting pretty have on 12ms latency, 1 jitter and 0% packet loss.
I'm currently sitting at 1ms latency, 1ms jitter and 0% packet loss for the server I chose.
Of course, these things mean absolutely nothing.
They mean a lot, for gaming these are the most important things to know about your connection. Your low latency is probably because of your area, do you, and the server you happen to be testing on live in the exchange?

Actually probably not, the server was in NY. Quite a long ways away from me.
And I realize they are important for gaming, I'm not an idiot, but the numbers mean nothing because they have nothing to do with the quality of my internet. There are far more variables that matter more.

Industry standard is to use bits, not bytes. Ever heard of 10/100/1000/10000 Ethernet standards? Ever rented a dedi or a vps? Transit is sold in bits too, not bytes.

Wolley is the expert on AT&T internet, as in can explain how horrible it is.
But really, if you on AT&T DSL, then do not hesitate to go with Comcast, much better "unexplainable" then AT&T.
Just be warry that Comcast is one of the main parties in Six Strikes.
megabytes or megabits?
Any other suggestions for another ISP? Or should I stick to Comcast?

That said, pingtest is horribly inaccurate.
