EDIT: Could it be because you are on a secure version of Google (encrypted.google.com). I've never heard of something like that, but that's probably the cause.
For some reason it doesn't show on the encrypted version. I don't know why.
I never did post a lot, but now I'm leaving forever. This forum in general is a joke, with the crappy mods, handing out infractions like nobody's business, and just being plain stupid. There's that and there's the amount of stupidity that members hold nowadays. XDA Developers and OCN here I come!
http://encrypted.google.com is used by many firms in the US and Canada. We use encrypted.google.com. As an IT guy, your typical SSL://google.ca/ will stop eavesdropping but still allow handshakes and tracking through other Google services. The encrypted URL however, won't handshake and pass a one-way-to-google encryption string to be decrypted at the time of search to prevent any kind of monitoring of your searches.

So I was right then, it's not meant for general use by the end consumer.

Good call. I was wondering this too, and I use the encrypted version.
It looks like it's just an experiment/test thing, not meant for actual use.
HTTPS search queries still show up in your Google Web History, but they do not show up in your browser's History. Also, less likely for them to be maliciously picked up by a packet sniffer. Same reason I use the encrypted version of Facebook.

I would hate to know what you're doing if you need to encrypt -google searches.-

Clear your cache/cookies. If that doesn't work, you probably have an addon doing it.
If you type "encrypted.google.com" into the url box, the bar does not appear.

Well thars your problem.
I'm not sure where we got to going to encrypted.google.com instead of just putting https://.
Though I have to wonder why you need SSL for google searches anyway.. you monster(OP.)
