I have decided to just get a new computer. And I really like the macs and have always wanted to try one. I want to use it for recording minecraft videos in HD with no lag. My friend recently got the MacBook Air and he runs minecraft at full settings at an average of 60-70 fps. And one of my other friends also got the retina display pro and he runs minecraft at 40-50. I'm leaning towards the air but I really don't know if I want to go for the pro. The retina display is out of the question. Now this discussion is about the mbp and MBA. All I want to do on it is play minecraft with an HD texture pack at at least 50-60 fps on full settings while recording. If this is not something anyone recommends play recommend a foot laptop that can run minecraft and maybe even a little tf2 while recording at full with no lag at 50+ fps.
Thank you.
Another reason I'm leaning towards the macs are because of there good editing and easy access track pad. I love to use it for pvp
yeah, no. I bet you just want it for the shiny case?
also the last thing you said makes no sense, you love to use it for pvp? WHAT? So windows isn't good for killing players? Nor is linux? Why does operating system matter when killing players? what the hell are you on about?
If you guys are wondering ill answer some general questions.
I want an ssd
I don't care about the small difference in resolution I have seen my sisters pro and it looks good.
Battery life doesn't really matter
I want a 13 inch
Very good for editing and rendering my minecraft videos.
Good and won't lag when recoding minecraft.God why do you have to be so mean about it? Either answer the question or don't post crap on my topic please. And I like the track pad because its bigger than most and it's easier to do stuff with and I find it easier killing people in minecraft with
you said that battery life doesn't matter, that probably means that you aren't going to be using it on the go then? Which mens you will have a constant power source? In that case get a desktop not a laptop. I hate it when people waste $1000 on a laptop and just keep it on their desk every single day, plugged into the wall. They could have got a more powerful desktop for like $500.
So, I am guessing it doesn't really have to be a laptop?
i have the air because it's just so damned easy to pick up, toss around, open and close, and use. it's fast, sexy, and plays everything I throw at it. I hook it to my 24" dell here at home and that's great at 1920x1200; I hook it to my 27" at work and it's awesome at whatever 2000+ resolution that is (though it starts to tear in 3d games, as you'd expect). plus it's bsd/mac based so as a developer box it's got everything I need. Go for the biggest SSD you can get. I didn't, but I have a 128GB 400x SDXC card as my secondary drive, which zings along.

No, I will not subscribe to your channel because you asked... but I might if it's *good*.
I believe the intergrated graphics unit is the same with both the 13" MBA and MBP, which is HD4000 graphics. That should suffice for minecraft and TF2, though don't expect to be able to comfortably max it out. In that case the MBA may be a better choice, given that it does come with a pretty decent SSD.
Stick with the standard configuration though, don't bother upgrading the RAM or anything.
You want to play minecraft, record it, and be able to edit the video? ALWAYS go with a desktop for that. :\ Even if it is still a Mac, desktop > laptop for what you want.
Playing a game while recording (especially Minecraft, as it's a total hardware hog for some annoying reason) will make your computer get pretty hot pretty quick, unless it has good airflow. Typically Macs aren't "airflowy", because of their cramped-ness, and laptops (assuming it will be on your LAP, even if not) are even worse with heat.
I really suggest looking at the PC (Windows/Linux) options and spend the money you will save on some "popular" video editing thing like Sony Vegas.
But if you reaaallly don't care, and want a Mac laptop, go with the Pro, it won't overheat as fast.
Uhh... a trackpad is pretty terrible for MC, or any game that is easier w/ a scroll wheel, because the scroll wheel on the trackpad is a two finger drag... which means a trackpad is terrible for PvP.
just yesterday I bought a Macbook Air, but that was only because one of my siblings was going to college, and because she needed a Mac due to the specific software they would be running.
NO mac will be good for gaming and recording at a stable 60fps in 1080p, on top of that no one wants to hear the annoying clicks and all those fun noises macbook keyboards/mice make, trust me i have watched i few videos of minecraft make on a mac and it annoys me to hear that stuff super loud... Anyways if you will be at home just get a desktop for around 800-1000$ and you will have no problem, I'm sure someone will post a build soon.
This will be able to max any game on the market, record minecraft just fine all at 60fps+ check out neweggs tutorials on building a system, part 2 and 3 are relevant. Watch them both entirely to get everything right.
Edit: i forgot an optical drive but you can just get a cheap one, like $9 cheap.
Why? You can't upgrade a mac. Apple does it deliberately so you have to upgrade to outdated hardware when they say so. In other words, £2000 every year. Or £1000 for a windows PC that blows it so far out of the water it discovers artificial intelligence and travels at such a speed it turns into a spaceship and blows up the earth in the process (in other words, a 2006 core 2 duo)that'll last for 8 years, and then be upgraded for £300.
Lesson: PC. not mac.
Protip: People that buy up to date PC's don't upgrade them, they buy a new one. So the hardware argument doesn't really apply there.
What does apply is that you get the hardware of a 300 dollar Windows laptop in the price of a 1200 dollar mac.
I find it funny when people "demand" certain FPS in a game and say they want to buy a mac, well, we can do that, but how many thousands do you have to spend? If you don't have enough then too bad.
To be honest, the entire Mac/OSX vs PC/Windows debate is highly subjective. Yes, you can get better hardware for a lower price if you go for a Windows-based alternatives, but that may not be what the OP wants. The price/performance ratio of apple products tend to be pretty bad, when looking entirely at hardware. From the perspective from someone who is interested in pure performance, it's almost always a bad idea.
However, not everyone thinks that way. Those who purchase a Mac may want the OS, not the hardware itself. I'm not make any comparisons between Windows and OSX, but depending on your preference, you may prefer one over another. In this case, the OP stated that he wanted to try OSX to see what it was like for himself, so he's probably more interested in the OS itself.
Also this is more of a general comment, but the value of laptops aren't something that can easily be determined, because it's not just the CPU and GPU that matters. Because of the intergrated design, some may have a better keyboard, some with a better monitor, etc. You can find a >$500 laptop with the similar specs to the MBA, but there's a lot other factors that differenciate the products.
He stated he was going to use it for playing Minecraft and TF2, which are hardly demanding. Yes, it may struggle a bit with recording, but HD4000 graphics will suffice and such a generalization is both incorrect and unecessary.
Isn't that the same with pretty much any laptop?
Wonderful. A lot of bashing and generalizations, but no actual factual information, evidence or useful advice.
That's great, but how is that at all relevant? The OP asked for an OSX-based laptop for basic gaming, not a high-end gaming desktop. Not everyone buys a computer to play demanding games, product selection based on usage is a large factor to consider.
Seriously. You can hate Macs all you want, but that doesn't mean you can jump to conclusions and give misguided advice.
Macs are overpriced
they aren't good for games
Op wants to record at 60fps and no one wants to see game content low res
I'm going to ignore everything you said because it's all lies, macbooks can run minecraft but not well, let alone recording it.

If you have to get one, though, get the Pro. The Air has...well, let's just say the cooling is "fun."
You're making no sense whatesoever.
