I might be getting a new computer. I am a big minecrafter and i want to run minecraft with the highest fps possible. I will also use this computer as a regular computer it will not be only dedicated to minecraft. I have a $1200 budget. What amount of ram should i get and other things. I like low prices! Please post what you think ASAP! Thanks! Also what should i be looking for in a computer to make sure its fast?
i have about $900 computer i built my self and i only get 100 - 33 FPS in minecraft. All though any high demanding games i can play max with over 60 FPS without hicc ups.
You don't need over 8GB or RAM unless your doing some serious video editing or audio editing and heavy multi tasking.
You at least want to aim for a 3rd Gen Intel processer an I5 or a I7.
Video cards are a bit dicey some people like ATI some people like NVidia, The different isn't much PhysX is just a well placed marketing campaign from NVidia (All video cards ATI/NVidia can do it)
Mother boards are also based on what you like, all pretty much the same right down to the brass taxes. Difference is SATA ports PCI slots, PCI-E slots, and so on. I recommend anything from H77 or Z77 (H77 doesn't have allot of overclocking tools and the 2nd PCI-E 3.0 slot is 8x not 16 if you want to video cards)
Power supply, You do not want to go cheap on OCZ or Corsair i highly recommend.
Hard drivers are the easy part SSD hard drives are over rated and you won't see any jump in FPS there only good at brust speeds such as loading maps once the map is loaded the burst speed is over and the transfer rate is the same.

This just the basics on what to look for.
Thanks for that info... But i dont understand a lot of computer stuff im not that much of a computer guy. So i didnt understand a lot. But thanks for the info im looking for a desk top computer. iMac is way to expensive. Should i get Windows or Apple. If so what is the best computer out of them?
okay you want to look around for something like so,
Processer: I5 3500, I5 3570, I7 3770
Video card: Nivdia 500 series or 600 series Radeon 7000 series
Motherboard: Chipset H77, Z77
Ram: 8GB - 16GB (Ram is cheap) DDR3 1333MHz, 1600MHz,
Hard drive: 1TB - 1.5TB
Windows 7 home premium 64 bit. (Windows 8 has allot of holes in it not recommended)
Power supply: 600Watt - 750Watts
That's about a medium computer build and should handle anything you throw at it.
That should give you enough to look threw websites and big box stores.
(You do not want Integrated Graphics this will slow down any game to a halt if high settings are used)

Oh god. OP, DO NOT TAKE HIS ADVICE, HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT.
The best computer for running Minecraft? Most likely a 500-700 dollar one, as Minecraft does not put any load on high-end computer builds causing it to pretty much idle.
I personally prefer the Coolermaster storm cases, but whatever floats your boat.
And I agree on the graphics card change, but with that graphics card you could build a much cheaper pc.
This thread...I don't even know where to start.
Anything above 100fps for Minecraft is complete overkill and even that is just to ensure that you are able to easily max it without dropping below 60fps in the future. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ny3p would already max Minecraft without any problems.
The part about RAM is true, everything else is just plain wrong. You don't need anything more than an i3 to max MC and you don't need an i5 for most of other games either. Not both AMD(not ATi) and Nvidia cards can use PhysX, only Nvidia cards can, if you have an AMD card it is handled by the CPU unless you have a dedicated PhysX card which to my knowledge aren't even possible anymore. It doesn't make that huge of a difference anyway and most games don't utilize it.
The CPU multiplier cannot be adjusted if you have a H77 motherboard and the second PCI-e slot running on x8 doesn't matter, you could run a 7970 on a PCI-e 3.0 x8 slot without any bottlenecking whatsoever.
There's nothing wrong with most OCZ power supplies and most Corsair ones are just overpriced and not that great anyway. You clearly haven't ever used an SSD. It's pretty much the biggest simple upgrade after getting a better processor and GPU, and possibly even larger than those. Nearly instant load times can and do make a huge difference.
Yay locked processors and an i7 for gaming which is just plain dumb. The i7's only have slightly higher stock clock speeds and hyperthreading over the i5's and the first one can be countered by overclocking the processor. I'd recommend a 7750/7770/6850 to him if it's just for Minecraft, although those cards could run most other games at least decently. It's overkill but not that much and with that budget it's not a huge waste. Nvidia 500's are just powerless power hogs now and there's pretty much no reason to get them as the newer cards have the same performance for less and they use less power. 16GB of RAM is a waste if you're not doing heavy video editing or rendering and won't benefit you at all. Avoid <7200rpm hard drives at all cost and get a Seagate Barracuda/Western Digital Caviar Blue or Caviar Black if it doesn't cost a lot more.
The build I posted would run on under 300W but having a bit higher wattage power supply increases it's lifetime and efficiency. An i5+7870 would run with 550W just fine, you'll never need over 650W unless you get two or more graphics cards or a graphics card with two GPUs. Windows 8 isn't that horrible, but I'd wait for the first service pack before getting it.
Don't, he's been talking complete BS for the most part. Building the computer yourself would be the best option.
Thank you so much and if you can find a computer with those specs it would be great

You guys don't understand, the OP is only going to play Minecraft and use it for school. I'm pretty sure he doesn't need an i5 and a gtx 670 or something like that just for Minecraft. As for the OP, if you want to save money your budget shouldn't be over $550. Take this into consideration ---> http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3epZj

Also, do you need peripherals? Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard?
