Macs are just as good as PCs, especially since if you partition your hard drive right, you can have windows too (so screw all you anti-mac users out there).
The only downside to getting a Mac is that, like Alienware, you're paying through the nose for the name. If you're getting a computer JUST for minecraft (haven't read the OP, don't you judge me) then for god's sake DO NOT get a Mac.
Much too much for a $20 game.
If we're talking hardware-wise, then yeah, Macs can be as good as an average gaming PC. The only thing is, they're priced to the equivalent of a gaming machine that will destroy every game in benchmarks, and they clearly are not capable of doing that. I don't think people hate the actual machine, just how Apple bullshits about its' features.
On a note completely unrelated to the post above me: My god, so many Apple fanboys on this thread. If you want to boast about your Mac, fine, you spend your money however you want. But don't go spreading around ******** about them. Make sure you let us know that you actually have knowledge of computer hardware before letting your mouth go wild.
Indeed. I have a feeling this thread will be locked because it might devolve into a flamewar. On the other hand, establishing why Macs suck is imperative to helping people save money, so it has its purpose.
Every time the words 'iMac', 'Macbook' or 'Apple' pop up in a thread, it's pretty much guaranteed to turn into a flamewar. I don't think I've seen one thread in this forum about Apple and their products that doesn't have users arguing.
I don't think people should establish why Macs 'suck', just the advantages that non-Mac PC's have over them. They do have great programs (even though you could easily install Hackintosh on your PC and get them for a fraction of the cost...), and the shiny cases are nice to look at. But let's be honest, they're priced at like 3x of what they should be at, they're obsolete for gamers/power users because they're pretty much impossible to upgrade, forcing you to buy a new one every few years when new games require better hardware, and having one has most computer-literate people label you as ignorant. It's the ugly truth.
OP, you realize the 650 will be very crippled by the over double resolution than 1080p display the mbp has? You will get some pretty bad performance out of it, good luck with far/fancy.
Indeed. I have a feeling this thread will be locked because it might devolve into a flamewar.
So you're saying it hasn't already? For about 6 pages, people have been throwing arguments at OP telling him why he shouldn't get a Mac. So far he has not changed his mind. Does anyone really think he is going to get a Windows PC? No matter how flawed his arguments are, no matter how wrong he is, no matter how much better a Windows PC would be, he isn't going to listen. Might as well answer the question he asked in the OP.
@OP: Yes, that computer should run Minecraft but don't expect any wonders. 100 FPS is out of your reach - not that it matters anyway. 60 FPS is probably also impossible without lowering the settings.
Why is this thread still going on? The thread basically ended on page 4 and yet we've ended up on page 7. fm87 if you see this, please just lock the thread now. It's pointless to let it continue on.

They all suck. They just suck differently. Sort of like prostitutes.
Truly, the only reason macs are flamed SO MUCH on this place is because most people here are pretty heavy PC gamers. Yeah mac hardware is by no means made for gaming, however its up to par for a casual gamer that wants to play some minecraft and maybe some Civ V and such, but not for gaming every day with Ultra settings and such. I personally prefer the whole adobe setup on a mac due to how the palettes are floating in the programs, and files such as .psd and .ai can open in preview without having to open the entire adobe application and such. Its just those small kind of things that flows so well.
People also need to realize that you don't get the complete stability that the Mac OS gets you when you make a hackintosh. Sure, it isn't bad, but some people just want something that they wont really have to tweak anything at all.
Also for people saying you can get something much better for the money, remember you cant compare it to building your own PC, as for one, this is a prebuilt just like any other brand, and two, its a laptop. Yeah, it is still much more expensive than a regular laptop, but you do get some great software with it and that is just what some people are looking for.
But i guess that doesn't really matter, because someone is just going to reply to this and just say "macs suck" and "a pc can be way faster than that mac for the price and its way too expensive anyways." but thats life.
Yeah, you can respect your own opinion on Pcs, but at least be nice and have some explanation on why you prefer them. And remember, not everyone is a big gamer.

Nononononono. This just keeps getting better and better by the hour. >

Sure, I'll give you an explanation. You say a reason Macs are so great is because of the nice software? That well worth $1700? For the difference, you could buy some other software that does the same stuff and have plenty money left over(and also have a much better computer). Oh, you also happen to know how many programs that aren't compatible with Macs?
I honestly think Mac users should give up on this.
I'm a mac user. ( Not for long )
Oh my gosh I can't stand it. This was a gift for christmas... Currently going to build my own desktop. Everything to do with mac makes me want to Shoot myself. Horrid pricing on everything. Ughhghghghgh save me windows 7.

Just out of plain curiosity, i would like to see a quote with all of this. You will need a Music application that can record multiple channels simultaneously and record midi, have a library of different midi sounds, and processing effects. A Video editing application that can adjust brightness, contrast, and etc., have a sound equalizer, ducking, and etc., transitions and etc. (wmm is not even close to the quality of IMovie) A back up application that allows you to go to different backups based on date. A webcam app that can take pictures and videos, and add effects. Those are all the main applications i see that are of quality on OSX. I dont care if what you find is free or paid, as long as it is of similar quality to what i have said.
You will need a laptop comparable to what the OP posted. The screen should be LED, the hard drive at least 500gb, just to specify.
Did you know that a mac is also a pc. pc stands for personal computer. When I said i wasnt getting a mac, I was kidding. The reaction was pretty funny. I still like mac and I still want one. Im probably going to get one. On to other matters...How did some people see the part about the alienware? It was up for about 30 seconds. Do you refresh your page every 5 seconds?
A windows computer that is at least equal to a mac will cost usually over a thousand dollars. If you want something equal to garage band, It will cost you about 100 dollars. Macs are less prone to viruses because they are less popular and more secure so when a pc gets attacked, you have to take it to a computer repair shop which will cost you unless you know how to get rid of the virus. Im guessing that will cost around 100 dollars. To avoid that you can buy anti-virus softwarewhich will cost 50 to 100 dollars. Norton anti-virus is currently on sale but the full price is 80 dollars. On the mac, iwork (apple's version of microsoft office) costs 60 dollars if you download off of the mac app store. It includes Pages, Keynote, and Numbers. Microsoft office will cost between 200 and 300 dollars. Last but not least, when the next version windows comes out, it will cost between 100 and 300 dollars. Upgrading on a mac will cost around 30 dollars. Your total cost for your windows computer is around the price of a macbook pro. See what I mean? Price means nothing at all. Its just what you were told.
It seems like the apple fanboys won this one.
I said no arguing about which is better. Did anyone read the first post?

He may have been a troll because originally the post where he said he would get a pc said I'm getting an Alienware.
Don't quote me on that, oh to late.

And think, 2008! I'm fairly certain a newer 2012 will be just fine.
That bothers me so much for some reason.

Thinking about coming a mod to simply not moderate.
