Hmmm, well i can say is increase your MaxFPS to unlimited as well as change the graphics as fast (Depending on the screen size and resolution, you barely see a difference). On my MacBook pro (yes laugh as you wish). i get about 200FPS Max with a Nvidia 650M that is about 4 Years old.
Also, try adding optifine to your mods folder. With this mod it should help with lag and FPS (With helped me alot).
I installed Optifine and enabled all the FPS boosting settings and everything else that said it would help, and I turned the max fps to unlimited and im getting about 40 fps on average, which isnt a high as i wouldve liked but its better
I have an Acer Aspire with great specs and I'm still only getting 30-40 fps on Minecraft.
Laptop:
Intel i7-5500U
8GB DDR3 RAM (4GB allocated to MC)
NVIDIA GeForce 840M 2GB
PNY 240GB SSD (newly updated from WD 1TB HDD)
Minecraft Settings:
Render: 10 chunks
Max FPS/VBOs: 60fps
Smooth Lighting: Minimum (would like to have on Maximum)
Brightness: 50%
Graphics: Fancy
Clouds: Fast
View Bobbing: ON
Particles: All
Entity Shadows: ON
I feel like i should be getting 60fps all the time but im not.
Its frustrating because i just had that SSD put in to speed my laptop back up from a dying HDD.
Im getting the same or better FPS on my other laptop with an i5-6200U and Intel Graphics 520
Done basically everything in survival, im running out of things to do lol

I would agree with Optifine. It does a lot.
http://optifine.net/downloads.php
Download the latest version from there. Run the file and click install.
Also, the SSD would not increase your FPS, only loading times.
When in game, press F3 and check to see that Minecraft is actually using the Nvidia GPU and not the Intel GPU

You can lower the graphic settings.
Did you install the newest version of 64-bit Java and the newest Nvidia drivers?

I know java is up to date and I'm pretty sure the drivers are as we, but I'll double check
