My dad has been saying for awhile that tablets will take over desktops/laptops, and I'll tell you.. I don't see how that could ever happen. Here's already huge problem that I can see, gaming cannot be done on a touchscreen(well, except the games like Angry Birds). However, I know there will be external mice/keyboards for tablets, problem is though, you still may as well buy a desktop cause the parts would be cheaper. There's a ton of other problems that I can think of, but I'll just stop at problem #1 because that would be like the biggest(for us, at least).
Please share your opinions on how you think they will/won't take over the world and other things on the topic.
No. They will become a larger part of the world, but consoles/PC's/phones and tablets all have their own pros and cons that they provide. There is no 'one size fits all'.
One problem I see with tablets: There's way too many of them. Seriously, if you didn't know the different kinds of tablets or what brand you wanted, you'd be lost in the sea of various tablets for sale.
I think tablets will quickly become legitimate alternatives to laptops. However, I doubt they will ever replace them completely, and the desktop market will be mostly untouched.

There are also a LOT more PC's than there are tablets, as well as the option of building your own PC. I doubt that tablets will take over the world, their hardware will always be weaker than a PC's, simply because they are being massed produced while PC's will have much more powerful hardware.
They have more cons than pros, and the pros they do have can already be done via phones, for everything else a netbook/laptop/desktop/game console/handheld console would be better.
Outside of that the few pros only tablets can do are so niche, they would barely have a market.

Tablets don't have weaker hardware because they're mass-produced, they have weaker hardware because there's no way to cool them. If you stick a fan in one, it becomes too thick to hold properly and if you transfer heat to the outside casing, you'll most likely burn the user.
Food for thought, Bill Gates was saying the same thing about tablets back in the Win 95-98 days. Everyone thought he was crazy and that tablets were stupid. Hell, Windows 98 even has default Tablet drivers!
There was the Windows XP tablet and the ProGear tablet that ran on Windows 98. Then there was a version of the XP tablet that ran Vista.
Look where we are now. Apple is the innovator and tablets will take over the world!

I think laptops would still be a problem, what if you needed gaming(or power) on-the-go? A tablet wouldn't be sufficient.
I see nobody thinks so, which is good, I don't know what my dad was thinking.. it was probably Windows 8 that triggered that in his head.
