Yeah, some people call macs expensive facebook machines. But really now? I see people blogging, creating photos (real stuff, not 3 y/o paint paintings) using mature programs like adobe suit etc. They buy a mac because they feel it helps them create something to share with the world.
Windows 8: Buy this to play angry birds and look up pictures of a gallerie.
I truly do not know where to place the blame. I am overall unhappy that humanity, in the computer world, is being turned into a bunch of unproductive consuming arbitrary entities.
No drive to create.
No drive to do more.
No drive to work at something.
No drive to be productive.
That is the lifestyle Windows 8 promotes. Do nothing. Be at ease. Encounter no difficulties. Feel no pain.
** I am not saying that programs shouldn't be easy to use, or that you should encouter issues with a program or OS. I am saying that there is a lifestyle shift from powering through hard tasks to defaulting to arbitrary idle activity.
Not to mention the metro UI is just sad. Literally. Who's idea was it? I mean the idea is okay. I LIKE THE CONCEPT. I hate the design. I know you can change it but seriously, who even actually wants their computer to be like that.
THough maybe I should consider this a blessing. It will be much easier to find a job/become bourgeois/assume power/control the populace.
Ok so let me get this straight. you say windows encourages to do nothing. Then say macs encourage productivity. Then say how windows comes with nothing good for creativity then say about how people are productive with macs with adobe which isn't free. Which is also available on windows. And we have faster hardware for cheaper. and we have quicksync

It isn't about the programs. Sorry about that.
I am saying that the way one interacts with Windows 7 or OSX encourages people to produce their own digital stuff. Windows 8 attempts to stop this, in lieu of playing angry birds, constant twitter updates, and random news stories flashing in your face.

I always wanted to argue with a brick wall, I suppose the internet is the second best option.

Wait what? If you are creative commercials for a OS arnt gonna stop you.
Have it on my laptop (waiting for SSD RMA before I install on desktop), and I have to say that the default start screen looks disgusting.
But once you give it some transparency and make your own background and icons, then it really starts to look great.
It'd be great if there was an inbuilt method of customizing it, so people can shut up about it terrible.

I like both the Pokki Menu for Windows 8 and the Windows 8 Start Screen. They work together, since there was a button in the Pokki Menu leading to the Windows 8 start screen, and its logo can be changed to the Windows 8 logo.
I love Windows 8, and it rules! I downloaded several Metro wallpapers to honor my glory to Windows 8.
I have to say, Surface Pro looks pretty darn good.
If I had 1100 to dump on an ultraportable for work, that would be my choice over any ultrabook (128GB model because working with ~30GB onboard isn't enough, SD memory is slower so if I was dumping money mineswell go all the way)
Also saves me the trouble of bringing a mouse, kind of, since I can't stand trackpads.
Been interested in the Surface Pro since it was announced and is looking pretty damn good and seen some videos on YouTube of it playing Counter-Strike: GO, Guild Wars 2, Arkham City and Diablo III
If I see it playing Minecraft pretty smooth I might just be sold... I've always wanted a more portable version of the PC Minecraft sure I could get a Laptop but I want Tablet size!
So its worse than a macbook? Hmm yeah I would rather get a zenbook for this price, thinner, lighter, better cpu/gpu, more storage, etc, etc. Also I'm pretty sure the Asus VivoTab with W8 Pro and a 64GB SSD has 58GB of usable storage in comparison to the 23GB in the Surface Pro, also costs half the price.
Seems to be the general trend.
You give them a city block, they want a planet.
Can I have the Sudetenland? I might also want Austria... And the rest of Europe... With only my people around...
"Programmers never repeat themselves. They loop."
But it's still far more than a city block.
But yeah TL;DR, personal computers and tablets are home appliances now. Deal with it.
I'm not how you can derive a difference in the experiences. I don't see any difference between using a laptop and a desktop.

Surface pro gets a 1/10 repair score by ifixit...... Over 90 screws!

Admittedly it is fairly shock resistant.
Innards are interesting.

I own it and love it. I'm sure you will be extremely happy with it.
Thinking about coming a mod to simply not moderate.
Including me.
I am sure your whole family based this on experience and trial with the new OS.
Besides a few drivers issues near nothing has changed in how I go about my daily computing.
I use Win8 exactly the way I used Win7.
