I just built my own computer and everything works greatly. The one problem I'm having, however, is the audio. When I first built my computer, my monitor didn't come so I used my TV with an HDMI cable. Everything was great there as far as I could tell. Today my monitor came and the audio became strange and lags behind the video. It's about 1/3 of a second off the video. My monitor doesn't have built in speakers like my TV does, so I'm using headphones and plugging them into the headphone jack. Also, when I go to Minecraft and I'm not playing a world, it does little screeching noises. I've tried three different set of headphones but all are the same. I've tried to reinstall my audio driver but it didn't help. Is there a way to fix this?
Does the problem persist when you use the DVI connection? Go into device manager, and set your case speakers as the default device and see if that fixes it.
I'm assuming you mean a front audio port on the case. If so, check the connection for this front port. It may be connected improperly. Also, make sure your sound is set to stereo and not 2.1 or 5.1 or something.
How would I change it to stereo? I think it's on stereo already, but I'm not sure. I just completely reinstalled Window's 7 and tried to make the connection better but it was fine. So that's not it. Hopefully it's the stereo thing. If nothing works, I may just take it to Best Buy and ask them.
Well I did that and it works there but on videos on Youtube it seems to still lag behind. This really sucks man I guess I'll just have to ask Best Buy and see. Thanks for your help though.
So I asked on Eggxpert.com and they said it could possibly be a bad sound card on the motherboard. Would someone suggest either to send the motherboard back in and get a new one or to just get a sound card?
If your board is still under full warranty, I would suggest sending it in. If not, sound cards can be had fairly cheaply as long as you have space in the case, and an available PCI/PCIe slot. I'm not sure about the card being bad though. All sound from the computer comes from it's card, so if the card was bad, the HDMI sound would have been bad. Try using your headphones with the back audio port. If the sound is still messed up there, than the port is probably bad. If not, the case audio ports are bad.

Alright. I have one PCI-E slot remaining, but it's smaller than the video card one. I'm guessing this is the sound card slot, right? And could someone recommend me a cheap sound card at a store like Best Buy? I don't want Surround Sound or anything. I'd like just a regular stereo sound card.
This is the cheapest Currently available at bestbbuy. Even though it's 4 channel, just set the computer to stereo, and use the green port, and good to go. As far as the slot goes, might want to check it. If it's a different size than your video card's slot, they're not the same kind, so you'll probably need a card for a different kind of slot. Also, sound cards are tiny, like a couple sticks of ram laid next to each other.

Out of curiosity, what kind of cable is connecting the monitor to your graphics card?
