Never understood Apple's retina displays. Most people dont use resolutions that high because its pointless and wasteful of system resources, This is similar to running your games at 150 fps, it really just doesn't matter.
I think its funny how, at least in the world of smartphones, other manufacturers are developing lower power screens and new technology such as amoled screens, while apple just crams more pixels into their washed out lcds and calls it innovative.
More pixels is nice. I can see the pixels on my Gs2, which is 480x800, and the screen on the iphone 4s is perfectly smooth and crisp. It is a nice thing to have, but it seems most people here don't appreciate high pixel density, or don't have the eyesight to notice it.

"retina" displays are worth it for the iPhone/iPod. For the MBP? No need, it's a waste.

Wow, I may hate Apple for overpricing their Macs, but that's pretty impressive for a laptop. Still not enough to justify its' ridiculous pricing, though.
Impressive, but still overbudget for me. I'd pay like no more than $500 for a laptop. lol.

Meh, 1920x1200 is plenty for me. I guess high resolutions are nice on handheld devices where you will have it close to your face, but on laptops it's pointless since it will be on a desk or your lap. This reminds me of when I was in my school's library and a kid next to me literally had his face an inch from the monitor...

They all suck. They just suck differently. Sort of like prostitutes.
god damn apple for their slow website and forcing me to watch it in quicktime, which is also slow... Silly apple, they think we all have amazing internet....
edit: found a video on the macbook pro on youtube, looks impressive for a laptop... just need to find the other videos... if their out, cna someone link me the actually keynote, not the 5min stuff...
If you read the comments on those websites, the posters sound pretty computer illiterate. Thinking they've completely changed the game, saying that the industry will have to catch up again. Even though the industry has been ahead of Apple for years and most likely always will be.

The keynote is on the website. For some reason, I can only watch it on a Mac or iPhone. I have really slow Internet 1.5mbps so it froze a lot.
Anyways, I will definitely be getting one of these. I really want to see what my dslr photos look like on it's display. For me that's the biggest selling feature. My canon 600D shoots 18M pixel photos, so being able to see more than 2MP of those photos is a great feature.

The Commies count their quarters and the ArtSci wish they could, the Engs have the longest pole and slam it home for good, so big, so hard, so tall, it reaches all the way to heaven, so shut your hole, we climbed the pole, we're sci 1 ing 7!!!

Probably people who think playing a Flash game with no choppiness means their Mac is the best gaming computer out on the market. An extremely high resolution =/= great computer for gaming/resource-heavy programs.
To whoever said they don't have cooling problems: when playing starcraft2, themedium CPU temp is 88. Once it reached 109 on a youtube video. Really looking forward the new cooling thing in the retina MBP.
To all saying that retina is useless: you might have bad eyesight... High pixel density is a very nice thing which means you do not need any AA, and you can just see more details provided what you display has sufficient resolution. I must say amoled screens are nice, but I still prefer the iPhone over the Galaxy SII, even though it has worse colors and less contrast, because it is way more comfortable for reading.
I agree that 16:9 isn't great for www browsing (and not internet damnit), but that is due to how people conceive their website. I guess the solution here is to buy a pivoting screen, so you switch from 16:9 when gamins/watching movies to 9:16 for text stuff.
i love how they say no one has come to making a laptop as thin and powerful as the macbook air, yet asus made one that was thinner and better performing... also why the hell to you need a hhd transfer speed on a mba of 500MBps, unless your doing 3d modeling, video editing, photo editing on the pro level or gaming you dont need that, besides pros/gamers will be buying other things... and i love how they say "usb 3 so amazing, and unlike other companies where making all the ports usb 3, dispite the fact that usb 3 is only needed for external hdd, in which case why do you need 2 plugged in at once, herp, derp" i can make more jokes, im only 20min into the video, (watching it on my ipod surprisingly smooth).
ok so there also making 2 versions of the mac book pro, one is the replacment for the old one, the other is a "new ultimate one" and i love how they say the ultimate one is revolutionary for its high res screen yet all they did was give the regular one a crappy res.. (lower than the old one, wtf)... also they say its the most bestest looking laptop they made, they say that about everything they make, plus they all look the same...
im sorry but the "ultimate" macbook pro has a 2880x1800 display, once they said it would be great for gaming i burst out laughing....
basically there new macbook pro that there calling revolutionary is jsut the last gen macbook, the new one is just dumbed down so they can make the same thing look amazing..
It's a shame 16:10 monitors/laptops are so hard to find now.
Yeah I'm glad I bought my 19in 1440x900 16:10 monitor when I did. Got it on sale for 70-80$. And even though it's not full HD, I don't really mind too much. I'm planning on getting a full HD monitor in the future anyway to replace my 1024x768 15in second monitor lol
im sorry apple, but come on! A retina display on an overpriced mac! What type of professional would even use a macbook for maya and cad. This retina display is going to overheat hard without new cooling. Apple should focus on making their prices lower, and putting better specs on their computers so people who do pay that price don't have to get a new mac every year.
One thing I will say for Apple: they make amazing, albeit expensve, monitors. Great for artists and things like that. Hopefully, the 2880x1880 resolution is actually noticeable and GPU's can catch up soon!
You mean they resell amazing, albeit expensive, monitors. I'm willing to bet they're getting the "retina" displays for these laptops from Samsung. That's where they get the "retina" displays for the iPad. The iPhone displays come from LG.
Apple doesn't make displays is what I'm trying to say. They buy them.
I have to admit, when I saw this commercial, it made me want a Macbook Pro. But they're too expensive for me, lol.
It just looks so nice! When it comes to looks, Apple does it right. Yes, there's some good looking laptops, but Windows 7 isn't as good looking as OS X, personally.

Yeah, but you have to tweak it. And don't think the Windows will look the same.
