Ummm. It's not free but Pinnacle Studio 12 isn't too bad. That's really all I can think about. All I use is WMM, Pinnacle Studio 12, and Sony Vegas 10. Sorry if that doesn't help you out. :\
Video editing is not easy, remember, you are dealing with professional software when you look at Vegas. Windows Live Movie Maker is about as simple as it gets.

But, windows movie maker that comes with windows 7 is S***!.
Google or youtube Windows Movie Maker 6 if anything, it comes with a installer and is community made because the windows 7 live crap movie maker is horrible vs it. Movie Maker 6 came with Windows Vista, one good thing "yes that is right" Vista had.
If anything, you could get the Trial "30 days" version of Camtasia 7.1, it is pretty user friendly and quite powerful at the same time. It is professional grade, but not for hardcore video editing.
However it is a trial, not free. Yet is overpriced as fffu, but is best for what it does is screen capture and self editing.

Look up tutorials on youtube for Sony Vegas 11. Thats what I did

I like to play games on steam like Garry's Mod and robocraft.
I originally thought that with Sony Vegas 11 too, but give yourself some time. It's not all that difficult after you get used to it. Or if that doesn't work, try looking up some tutorials on YouTube. Oh and for the person who suggested Virtualdub, I think you got this wrong. He was looking for a "Simple" video editor, Virtualdub is as confusing as I'll ever get.
Sony vegas 11 is hard. Used the trial edition and couldn't figure **** out.
All of my 1337 vids are made with it

S to split clips, that's about all I needed to learn. Everything else is fairly intuitive, until you get into animating and stuff.
