Okay well this is sorta minecraft related, so it isnt meant for the "off topic", but at the same time it IS made for off topic because this is about non minecraft related stuff.
So I always used to play minecraft multiplayer on my schol computer, thathas all the usual school computer stuff, proxy, blocking certain sites that usually can be bypassed somehow, all that. So usually I could play smp on that computer, but then I had to swap out that computer for a new computer for technical reasons.
I still have the old computer that I played smp on, and I just got the new computer. thing is for some reason, the new computer cant play smp on minecraft.
I have the downloaded desktop version of minecraft, and on the new computer, the changelog on the login page in the client doesnt say anything, its all gray and has a little text at the upper left corner (I can post it if u want)
And when I go to conect to ANY smp server, it says it failed to login. (I can also post that exactly as it says if u want)
my old computer never did that. (Which I STILL HAVE the old computer for now so if u have any Q's on it i can answer)
So why is it doing that and how do I make it so I can play smp again on my new computer?
I have a windows.
****Or if anyone could at least tell me what it could be that is making so i cant connect to servers that would be just as great. :D****
Please help however you can I can answer any questions you have also!
It's possible that they updated the content filters in your school or district. I know that they continuously update the filters at my school as people figure out how to get around it in different ways. It could be something they did which just happens to block whatever process the client uses to connect.

true but if that were the case, I wouldnt be able to connect with my old computer. which I still can. And they usually update that kinda stuff over the internet so if that were what it was, the old computer wouldnt be able to connect anymore. Ideas how to fix it on the new computer?

I will always be hitting + for an informative or otherwise good post.
With these computrers its usually easy to change just one thing slightly without hurting anything else just so something like this, making smp servers, work. (for instance, making minecraft.net unblocked but all other blocked sites fine)

School computers are pitri dishes for malware.
If you haven't already, change any passwords to any programs or services you logged into with those computers.
