I would go with the Core i5. Just make sure its the 2500k so you can overclock it a bit. That is what I did so I don't think the extra money for a i7 is necessary.
The only differences (as many have stated) are that the i7 2600k has 2mb more L3 cache and hyper-threading. If you are not rendering or modeling or encoding or anything like that often then I would recommend the i5.

Try my map named Survival Earth http://adf.ly/4APq1 VVVV My custom built rig:
Wow! I ordered it with my dad yesterday and he just started upgrading stuff that he thought should have been updated! He expanded the budget basically by $500, so here are the final specs:
NZXT Alpha Gaming Case
Intel i7 2700K Quad Core @3.5 GHz
ASUS P8Z68-V LX
Corsair 16GB DDR3-1600 RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7850-2GB-Single Card
Thermaltake TR2 TRX-750M
Liquid CPU Cooling System SOCKET-1155 ARC Dual Fans
1TB Hard Drive - Raid 1 Data Security
Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit
LG 12X BLU-RAY Rewriter
And other stuff that don't matter
This was shock thing, I would have asked u guys about it first... I told him about the i7 and how it is for people that do 3D modeling and stuff. He then told me that he wanted me to get into 3D modeling so he upgraded the i5 to an i7. Thanks for your help! Most likely I will need your guys' help again in the near future...
Yeah. Liquid cooling is pointless unless you're overclocking. Are you gonna overclock?

I don't exactly PLAN on overclocking... But I talked to someone who told me to go with the socket 1155 liquid cooling because the standard heatsink was apparently crap.
Edit: with this rig, how much fps do u think I could get in minecraft?

You could've gotten a better heat sink then. With that build you should get above 100 FPS.

The standard heatsink isn't as bad as you might think/as people say it is.
So what do u think can keep the computer cooler? The standard heatsink or the socket 1155 liquid cooling+ARC Dual fans? I honestly do not know... (obviously)
Yeah, I'd stick with the stock cooler. If you're not happy with the temps, then you can always get an aftermarket one.

It's overclockable, can YOU overclock it? Who knows, can you?
A little ambiguous what you're asking.

The aftermarket one will make the processor cooler, but not to an extent to where it will affect performance.
The liquid cooling should not be used unless overclocking.
Edit: I actually got a fan controller/temperature display, so I can easily tell the temperature that way.
Now you must overclocked it. lol.
