I was working out of a java programing book in order to learn java (duh) and it told me to change the Command Prompt PATH, so i did, then i figured out that i can't use if for anything else! kinda stupid of me not to relise that... so now i need to know what to change it back to, i have quick time and i think it works out of there...
I need to fix this, please help
Also i was wondering, i changed it to use .batch files that came with the JDK download, so can i put those into were command prompt PATHs out of? i am guessing that i can but i just want to make sure...
Can anyone help me?!

For a list of everything I've ever done that you might ever care about, visit the Homecode website.
If you're looking for the default location of the executable, (which I'm pretty sure you are,) on 7 and vista it's here:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd.exe
Though all you have to do is run "cmd" normally.
I'm not sure why you needed to use the command prompt, I've only ever needed the compiler (though to be honest, I'm not that experienced).
No, that does not change, when you go into the Environmental Variables and find the PATH one, that's what i am talking about, i changed it so it looks for it runs files from some were else.
The program opens just fine. Just that it can't find the .batch files that it uses.

That was pretty much a shot in the dark, but yeah, no problem.
The path is a list of directories that Windows will search through when looking for a program that isn't in the directory you are sitting in. If you changed the path whilst in the DOS window, just close the window and reopen. Path changes are not committed permanently if made there. If you made it in the GUI, then yea, you'd have an issue.
A path solely of "c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe" would not work, so I'm assuming you must have made the change in the DOS window and it fixed itself.

If that's correct then close CMD and re open it.
Though all you have to do is run "cmd" normally.

You may need to re install windows...

I did the same thing before, I just fiddled with PATH some more and eventually I got it to work.
I really don't understand how a small CMD problem would have to result in the re-installation of Windows....
