windows has a locked down integration of services. which i dislike. (with linux, i can atleast make my stuff integrate without getting sued)
Wait what? Why the hell did they do that?
...... They better not be going where I think they're going, because that would completely demolish any chance windows 8 has at the home/gaming market.
The only reason I dont switch to linux completely is because i made the unfortunate choice to buy a laptop with ATI graphics....
It constantly overheats with open source drivers and AMD's drivers dont work very well sometimes.
I will use W7 until i get a new laptop with nvidia graphics :<

Anyone can fly. The secret is to throw yourself at the ground and miss.
Actually I like the new task manager we will need it once we have 32 core machines and crap at the rage AMD is going that might be soon, because cores = performance.
LOL! Unless every software company in the world magically starts working on multi-threading packages for their software, and the multi-threading they are implementing is 100% perfect, cores =/= performance. IPC + cores = performance.

That was sarcasm and poking fun at AMD seeming to think that if they keep throwing cores on CPUs they will gain an advantage.
I really hate to say it but..... That really does seem like where they're heading. :sad.gif:
I really do hope they get much better with piledriver......I really like amd. If piledriver sucks, then I'm suck with a phenom ii for a few years before I can afford a whole new mobo and processor.

Bulldozer released at a bad time they just spun off there foundry's into Global foundries and there having issues getting the processing nodes ready.
Bulldozer power consumption is actually very good when you consider how large the die area is and how many transistors are in bulldozer they actually have higher density then Intels CPUs, not by much.
AMD has given up in the high end segment the lano cpu are selling much better then the Phenom2 ever did.

I really do think AMD could succeed if they concentrated on perfecting quad core performance with maybe some hyperthreading thrown in, and only went to 6 cores when the consumers demanded it.

I know bulldozer isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be, its just not worth and upgrade from my phenom ii. Are the lano cpu's the APUs?

Bulldozer in terms of gaming is pretty bad but in terms of just sheer computing bulldozer does well. For gaming Phenom2 is better then bulldozer price to performance wise, if bulldozer was equally priced with phenom2 it wouldn't be so bad.
Ya lano is the APU it is being replaced by Trinity that is piledriver based.
Really? My friend went form a phenom ii x4 at 3.0ghz to a 6100 and got about 5fps better in bf3 on high with a gtx 560ti.
Considering the price difference, and the fact that it has 2 more cores, a 5FPS difference (given variables of gameplay) is nowhere near enough of a difference to even count, it mind as well be the same.

So i guess realistically no difference, but I was expecting him to lose performance. And he got it on a black friday sale at fry's for $70, so it was definitely worth it.
I hate how they are doing all this cloud stuff. I don't feel secure. Especially with my "important" files.
Exactly this.
Cloud computing is not meant to be used in this way. It is great for businesses and enterprise solutions (you would no longer need to have workstations for example, everything would be in the company cloud) but for home and gaming it just has too many issues.

Like trying to stream 1080p video/sound and constantly upload user input to/from a 'cloud gaming' service on your 1Mbit/s Internet connection...

No it's not. Bulldozers underperform for everything except compiling code and number crunching, in which they beat even the high end xeons/i7s.
For gaming and general use though, they are worse than first generation i3s.
They also excel in hyperthreaded apps.

Something like this? A ftp server, and print server for ~$50 :biggrin.gif:
