Okay so ever since I got Minecraft last year around this time (December 18th 2010, to be exact) I had only gotten 30-40 FPS maximum. Most of the time it would lag and I always had to put everything on minimum settings and constantly hit F. This is going to be for games like Skyrim, Battlefield 3, Minecraft, Starcraft, Magicka, etc... and to be able to play them on Ultra with 30+ FPS without lag.
The total above isn't the actual total though. I used a website (pcpartpicker.com) to compile all that, and it's using current prices. I got the CPU for $180, Cooler for $15, Case for $90, OS for $80, RAM for $30, and the HDD for $50, before prices went up. I plan on unlocking the Graphics Card to a 6970. I'm probably going to use my 32" Dynex LCD TV for a monitor until I save up $200. I only have $400 to go!
So I have the -
CPU
CPU Cooler (I'll be overclocking to around 4.5 Ghz)
HDD
RAM
CASE
So does everything else look good? Will this run Minecraft 60+ FPS with highest settings and other games 30+ FPS on Ultra? Thanks!
Uh Battlefield 3 on ultra maxed AA you will not get 30 fps + with a 6950 my 6970 gets around 40 and I'm playing at a lower resolution.
This is mainly because BF3 for some reason uses subsurface scattering at ultra maxed to the teeth.
This is a relatively new tech for games (is used a lot in 3D rendering) and more than likely very, very poorly optimized. Even if it is optimized, subsurface scattering takes an INSANE amount of resources on rendering still images, let alone a real time game.
If you could disable that on it's own it would probably run at 60FPS on ultra no problem.

Skyrim you will be fine unless you start installing the modded textures my 6970 only gets 40 in my skyrim game and i have a lot modded.
Starcraft 2 easily 60 fps +
Depending on what map and how many units.
Minecraft performance should be fine.
Just a tip don't use the 12.1 drivers they suck and cause all my games to crash use the more stable drivers.
Hope that helps :/

Okay, but what does Anti Aliasing do?
It gets rid of jagged pixelated edges of the game.
Thanks
It makes polygons smoother.
For example, in Skyrim the mountains would be less jagged and nicer looking.
