shoudn't this thread actually be more in politics and news?
i dunno, oh well. just wanted to say that.
Well it's putting anyone who works in the IT field essentially out of a job (businesses will be afraid to operate in the US, google etc. will move overseas) so it's pretty relevant.
... When we will have forgotten about SOPA and won't do anything about it...
Sounds Legit, atleast we have more of a chance.
If this does pass I will be a very sad panda indeed.
Basicly no forums D:, no youtube D:<, no social networks, no filesharing sites, no sites with comments avaliable, no news sites.
The internet will become a place of mediocre blogs.
The problem with this bill is it does not target the root of piracy.
The crackhouse anaolgy they used was a good one.
These things would just move somewhere else like TOR or usenet or P2PHTTP or another under-the-surface web protocol.

People who work for the government should pass a test with a few sections including: Modern Technology, Cultural Knowledge, Political Responsibility and Economy. They should also encourage Open Mindedness and Dedication, so they wont go and claim money on pointless things and such.
- Wow, my writing ability is getting progressively worse as it gets later.
Well, if I understand correctly, it means none of those for at least like 4 months for the whole world, then later on only in the US because most companies will have moved to other countries.

"SOPA has NOT been postponed to 2012! The Committee members who support SOPA quietly changed the hearing date to the 21st, trying to trick the American people into thinking it was over for the year."
I think the stupidest part about this whole thing is that they don't even know what they're talking about.
"It doesn't matter if the IP address belongs to a person, a business, or a toaster"
What irritates me is immediately before then they brought up one of MANY cases where they go to court against an IP/MAC address and it turns out to be a printer, TV, or game console. Or more often than not, some 90 year old lady who lives alone, never has visitors and can barely work how to turn her computer on and look at email let alone torrent.
I also LOVE how NO ONE even bothered to mention the fact that IP, MAC, hardware ID, etc. ALL OF THAT CAN BE SPOOFED QUITE EASILY.
The video makes me even more mad. Anyone know how many votes are needed to pass & if Obama will veto it?

I'm working on a letter to NM's congressman.

DID YOU REALLY PUT THAT ON THE RECORD? REALLY?
http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20111216/11102617108/sopa-markup-runs-out-time-likely-delayed-until-2012.shtml
This crap should be illegal, just wow......
"As the U.S. Congress is set to begin its holiday recess, this delay guarantees that SOPA (and PIPA) will not pass in 2011." Toms hardware

So it can't go though congress tell after the holidays until then we need to get more people contacting there respective representative.
Yes, I was just watching that.
It's about money and censorship, not being bored.

It's ridiculous!
I know I made all my friends download it and install it.
TOR is not only extremely slow, but it has very bad underlying issues.
IIRC the founder of TPB is working on a peer-to-peer DNS system, much more elegant of a solution.
There are already enough "for" it for it to pass.
Obama will not veto it because he is a supporter of it. This is why it cannot wait for him, it needs to die RIGHT NOW.
What WILL actually happen to the Internet if this passes?
It will honestly die. It would be overturned in the supreme court though.
In the second most corrupt layer of the US government? I think not. Our only hope is Obama, and he's for it.
