So what matters the most, (and the least) when you are building your own gaming computer.
(you know Processor, RAM, Video card.)
Also, would 8 GB be enough RAM?
Its so I know your currency and what website too look for you
CPU: Around a i5-2500k
RAM: You can go with 4GB, but it should be 1600Mhz
HDD: Any memory that you need but make sure its 7200RPM 6 GB/s
Someone else can help with the motheboard and GPU... I'm not soo good with those
Yes Im from America.
I was looking at a ASUS P8Z68-V PRO Motherboard but im not sure about the video card yet.
i5 2500k or i7 2600k both look great.

Most: CPU, GPU, RAM (They all have an equal value of importance.)
Least: CD/DVD R/W, only when installing game. It's still a lenghty process, though.
Alots alrady been covered but ill add my 2 cents because I picked up my computer parts and put it together yesterday and my budget was very similar.
Basically an i5-2500k is more than enough for gaming. All the research I did suggested the i7 will not provide a noticable difference for gaming. RAM wise a good speed (1600mhz) of 4GB ram is enough, but its so dam cheap you should just go 8GB. Back this up with any $200-$300 card, you honestly cannot not go wrong, just find something in your price range and Google review for it and just read there are so many great sites that do reviews.
Other then that be sure to get a quality PSU and a good speed HDD.

HDD: Any memory that you need but make sure its 7200RPM 6 GB/s
SATA3/6GB/s is completely unnecessary for hdds. Hdds aren't even fast enough to nearly bottleneck SATA2, ever 15,000RPM drive don't come close. SATA3 on hdds is a marketing tool.
As stated before, a GPU is probably the most important part of a gaming computer. As long as you have a fair newish quad-core (and maybe even dual-core), most performance will be limited as to how fast your GPU is. My suggestions:
CPU: AMD Phenom or Intel i5 quad-core
Ram: 4-8GB 1333 or 1600MHz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 560ti/AMD Radeon 6950 or better
Storage: An SSD will make loading times faster, but a 7200RPM HDD will work fine.
As for the motherboard and PSU, just make sure they are all compadible with the parts you pick and that the PSU has enough power to supply your build.

For me, it starts with the GPU; then the CPU(and MoBo) at the same time...(With the Mobo, I aim for 4 6GB SATA ports, and 4-8DIMM slots.
Currently in fact, im building another pc (68th) for myself this time; just working out what cpu and Mobo to get (no max $$$) so im tempted to wait till next year for the 2011 chips to settle down, and be ironed out.
