-CD/DVD thingy: LITE-ON 24X DVD Writer Black SATA Model iHAS424-98 LightScribe Support
will this be able to run MC without lag, if not, what should i buy? i will be running Windows 7 64-bit premium edition (i think its that, i forget, but its $150 for a pack of 3, so me and my 2 friends are splitting the costs). also, if you might know, will this be able to at least, at the minimum, play BF3?
the total price is a good deal of cash in USD dollars. do you guys think this is a good build, for the price at least?
well ive cut corners, i realized my build was really over kill.
How well? Probably over 100fps in Full HD/fancy/far .
Splurge a little and get a SSD, the Sata 6g 7200rpm drive is funny, because from Sata 2 to sata 6g you don't see any speed difference, with a ssd you DO.
I dunno about BF3 tho, but should run in full hd @ vsync quite nicely.
well the main reason im getting these particular items is because its part of a combo deal, only 700 bucks in all. what would i need to buy to get more than 100FPS, and i dont think a SDD would make MC run faster, would it?

Minecraft does a lot of read/writes, so It couldn't hurt, all I know is running a server with a ssd or ramdisk is pretty fast.
And 700$, jeebus, I built my pc for around 800 and I don't have a dedicated card yet, lol
That was a few months back, and I am using the new Intel i5 2500k which is kickass
It's not bad, it's a the end of it's lifecycle tho, they're about to release new ones soon.
Get some water cooling down the line, and if the motherboard permits it, crack that baby up to/past 4.5 ghz!
I mean it's a very decent package for the price, and btw, no bias towards intel, My last 2 pc I've built, have been AMD, I just like to go for "the most bang for my buck" and I couldn't resist the sandy bridge cpu (Intel i5 2500K)
is it worth spending the extra 15 bucks (most likely more) and getting the i5 2500K, im sure newegg has a package.
also, this processor is 200 bucks, its got 6x512KB L2 cache, 6MB L3 cache and the package is cheap, has 8GB ram
If possible don't get the AMD Phenom II X6 1100T its not ment for gaming but the AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition it will run wayyy better and more fps, also you dont need 8gb for gaming everyone will recommend 4gb (2x2). Ive never heard of that brand of a power supply and you WANT a good brand power supply so your rig doesn't blow up xD

ok, i think ill switch to intel again. i had originally picked an intel build, but my friend said AMD is decent and hell of a lot cheaper than intel. so here is my (latest) intel build which i think is quite nice.
CPU: intel i5-2500K sandy bridge 3.3ghz (3.7 turbo boost)
MOBO: ASRock P67 EXTREME4 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard (how reliable is this company?)
RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8 (reason for 8GB is because i host my minecraft server on my computer, more ram is always nice)
GPU: HIS H687F1G2M Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity
CASE: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021 link so you can see it, and check out all the specs
PSU: Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V Ver.2.2 / EPS12V version 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD5002AALX 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive (when it says bare drive, what exactly does this mean?)
OPTICAL DRIVE: ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM (does OEM mean its bad, ive never quite grasped the concept of OEM)
its quite a bit more than what i was expecting to spend, but it was only like 150 bucks more, which isnt that big a deal, ill just have to spend a bit more time working, thats all.

Antec cases are alright, better if you go with one of these:
CM HAF 912
CM HAF 922
CM Storm Scout/Sniper
NZXT Phantom
NZXT Lexa S
Lian Li K62/63 (I think thats their name)
Fractal Design Define R3
NZXT Tempest Evo
All have good cooling, design, and looks :biggrin.gif:
That build will definitely not let you down. :smile.gif:

great, i currently have about 5 or 6 hundred bucks (well i have more in a CD fund, but im not ready to spend that money) so i just need like 500 bucks for my monitor and the remaining cash :smile.gif:
also, since im hosting an MC server, id really like to know how to use the minecraft_server.jar
i can use the command javac from the CMD prompt, so i think i have the PATH variables set up properly, right? i just can not for my life get the .jar to work.
nvm, turns out that even though my computer says i have 2GB of ram, it actually only has 736MB, curse you gateway for lying that bad. but it now works, i just allocated 512MB, but when i get more ram, i can allocate more :smile.gif:
Probably about a jillion FPS on far/fancy. I get ~400fps on far and fancy on a Core 2 system... Looks good all around. Your frames will only be limited by your monitor's refresh rate
You don't need 16gb of ram... that's alot. I used to have that much and ended up using half for my dad's build. Never ever used all of it, and im constantly rendering videos.
Okay, first off,
Motherboard: Get one with more features. MSI P67A-G45
RAM: You will NEVER need 16GB. If you buy while newegg has their semiannual sale, there is some really nice G.Skill RAM for 83.99. Really Fast.
CPU Cooler: Just no. Don't get closed loop water cooling, its a waste of money. Get a V6 GT if you want to do serious overclocking. Or wait for the NZXT HAVIC 140.
Thermal Paste: Arctic Silver is not good. Get MX-2 or MX-4.
PSU: Get something from Corsair, Antec, Silverstone, ect. Don't get that.

is that why with a dual core 2ghz intel processor thats 6 years old is giving me like 20 fps max...could it be my monitor?

Thinking about coming a mod to simply not moderate.
any other concerns/comments about the new build though? i want to make sure its money well spent.

For "OEM"go here.
Also, you could probably go with air cooling. The "Hyper 212+" is a really well - known and great performing one for the price you pay.
For the Mobo, i'll lower your price by $20 if you want. The "MSI P67A-G45" is a really nice board.
