I have a youtube channel and for years I've been struggling to find a good alternative to imovie on my imac years ago. I really like that interface and how it all worked, and if that can't be achieved on windows then do you guys know any good alternatives?
I have already tried:
Windows Movie Maker
Lightworks
Wondershare
So far I like lightworks the best but the interface is so annoying to work with. It's weird and doesn't feel right. I'm looking for a relatively cheap (not over $100) video editing software, the cheaper the better as long as it does a good job.
I personally use Sony Movie Studio 13 Platinum ($80 but currently on-sale for $60).
It does a spiffing job and packs a decent punch. It has everything I need from multiple audio and video tracks to media transitions and effects to being able to precisely position elements on-screen. Basically, everything you need if you're an average Youtuber.
The only caveat is that the interface can be a little intimidating but it comes with a surprisingly useful help feature that doesn't just tell you how to do something, but literally points it out in real time in the actual software.
It might be a bit heavy on the ol' CPU though so probably not a wise investment if you've got a laptop or a low-end desktop.

What do you mean by free? I checked and it was $995. Are you talking about a limited demo or something? I'd prefer free but paying isn't a problem either.

No, the lite edition is completely free. It has a lot of the features that you will need as a new person. The rest of it really won't affect the quality of your videos. It would be like the difference between a cheap $600 DSLR and a $4000 one. Yes the more expensive one is more capable but as a new comer you will never use it to it's fullest. That being said Davinci Resolve Lite is the best free option there is and I would recommended trying it out before you look at any paid options.

There is a huge difference between a $600 and $4,000 DSLR.

Yes, but a newcomer won't notice, nor will they be able to leverage the $4000 camera. Point is, the free version has most of the things anyone needs, the rest is only necessary if you are a professional, in which case $10000 would be considered a small business cost.
Thanks! It's working great so far, downloaded it a couple days ago. Yep as a pretty amateur youtuber I'm not going to use all the features, but it feels pretty solid.

If you mean After Effects, it's really not good for video editing. Far too heavy.
after effects is not for video editing xD. Adobe premiere is for video editing.
Completely forgot about premier D:

Or you know, op could try Davinci Resolve, but no, lets all circle jerk WMM and just pretend a better free solution doesn't exist.

Highly recommended Adobe Premiere
I use Adobe After Effects, I know it's not really designed for that, but it does all I need.
