I currently own a Samsung ultrabook with the Intel Core i5 4200U running windows 8.1 and has a 128 gb ssd with 8 gb of ram.. it has a beautiful 3200x1800 touchscreen and simple things like youtube, downloaded movies and page scrolling LAG. It seems to come in spikes..\
Im quite sick of this so in my mind i have a few options
1) deal with it
2) disable tons of functions and features and tone don the resolution ( but i like the high res and touchecreen (13.3inch btw))
3) find a better preforming operating system.
So here is my question, Is there a linux operating system that is lightweight and efficient. All i need this computer for is internet and typing in class ( i can use google docs instead of word if its not suppotted in linux)
also what about the chromebook OS?
Windows 10 is an options too but ill wait till its more complete and stable
ALso for more information i really just use this laptop for class and i have a full gaming rig for programs and stuff, i have office on it so its not detrimental to not have windows only programs considering google has most of the things online now anyways. (i5 2500k, Gtx 770, fractal define r5, samsung 840 evo in-case you were curious )
I'm going to take a guess and say that mobile HD 4400 is not good enough to drive that kind of resolution properly. That's over two and a half times more pixels than what you would have on a 1080p screen, and when the GPU struggles with most games at 768p I wouldn't be surprised at all if it started to slow down even with more basic things when you drive the resolution up that much. I'm not really even sure why they shoved a high-res screen in a laptop that's supposed to be small and light in the first place, the only thing they manage to do with that killing the battery life.
My old retina macbook pro had a 1600 by 2560 screen and it had an Intel HD 4000, and I had absolutely no lag spikes.
Other specs were about the same ("i5-3210m, 8gb ram, 128gb SSD")
If you haven't done a clean install of Windows, you should. Eliminate the garbage software all manufacturers include before you start claiming it is something inherent in the operating system itself.
I would honestly lower the res to 1920x1080 (full hd)
Not much is going to need more then that and anyways if some €100 graphic cards cant run 4k the I dont honestly expect the integrated graphics to do so

Any input it extremely appreciated!!!
the battery life is actually great..
Only if a 2GB or 1GB/celeron or atom combo then it will affect peformance, other than less simply your browser/internet speed or bloatware
