At Microsofts consumer event today they confirmed that Windows 10 will be free to users running Windows 7 +
I'm glad that they did this considering the amount of unhappy users that got Windows 8. Not to mention that they've stopped support for Windows 8 to focus on 10.
There are also rumors that Windows 10 will be free for Windows 7 users for a year, then you'd have to pay. This does NOT mean that you will be charged after a year, but rather you have until say 22nd June 2016 to buy it, or it will cost. This is still unconfirmed as of yet.
I was actually kind of worried about making the jump to Windows 10 once it comes out. I've used the technical preview and it's really everything I've wanted in Windows, but my budget is a bit tight and probably won't loosen up even by the time it's released in full.
It's completely free if you have Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. It's not a subscription like it sounds

Can you match my resolve? If so then you will succeed. - Monty Oum
I'm going to be avoiding it unless they fix the lack of Window borders- Or at least make it possible to regedit the system metrics again to re-add borders.

May I ask why you require these?
I'm pretty sure even Mac OS X doesn't have any boarders.
If games that support Win 8(.1)/7 are easily ported to Win 10 and it doesn't require (in essence) a hard drive wipe, i could dig this. I've not yet played with the Win 10 tech demo to see how it is. I'm assuming it has the look of Win 8, with Win 7's interface?

I used Windows 10 on my daily use computer for a month and all the games I played worked fine.
The interface is almost exactly the same as the Windows 8 (excluding some new icons and thinner window borders), metro apps run in their own window rather than fullscreen and there is a new start menu. Other than that, it kinda just works the same as 8 did.
Thank god I need a fresh UI. Been using Windows 7 since 2013. I purpously bought 7 over 8 for my computer since Windows 8 was new and had pretty poor reviews.
Yes they are literally one pixel and I find it strangely infuriating. I think the reason for it is because Modern UI Apps running in a window have no border so all the standard theme now has no border either. I'd be perfectly fine with this as I mentioned before, but there is no way that I've found to force a larger window border.

I certainly hope they give us the option, but I think I'll actually enjoy the 1 pixel borders myself for a very small amount of extra screen space. AltDrag is almost a necessity for me nowadays.
I also somehow doubt they'll be giving free upgrades for MSDNAA versions of Windows 7.

MSDN Licenses are (with a few exceptions) effectively the same as your standard licenses with the main exception that they cannot be resold (for obvious reasons).
Though Windows 10 is already in my MSDN downloads so perhaps it's different for the MSDNAA.

What do you think of this?

And no it's not a subscription based thing like many rumors.

All those features were fixed in 8.1 to be honest. I've adapted. I actually like Windows 8.1 better than I did 7
It'd be stupid for W8.1 users not to change over to 10, they ended support early for Windows 8.x to work on the release of W10.

Yeah I doubt they'll give it for free for students.
