In the first photo it shows two Combustion Engines side by side, but if I remember correctly, they should not connect like this..
The second photo is of a Pump with a Combustion engine next to it, followed by Redstone power. It has fuel in it, but refuses to animate, or even work as it should for that matter. I was wondering if there is something I'm doing wrong here?
My list of active mods is as follows:
Mutant Creatures
Minefactory
Campfire Mod
Toomanyitems
Printer Block
More Explosives
(Sorry in advance if this is in the wrong section, I wanted to get it to where people could see it quicker, as I don't get much time on the internet and I wanted to get this answered as quickly as possible.
Okay, if you just placed it there it should run, I can't see anything wrong, sorry. which version of buildcraft are you on?
You can use the Wrench to rotate the engine, but only in directions where they can put their power. So you'll have to place a machine or wooden conductive pipe next to the engine and then rightclick the engine with a wrench
Yes, Redstone engines only require a redstone signal, but recently got change to not being able to power machines, so they might not work, depending on your buildcraft version.
I'm running the latest version of buildcraft for 1.5.2 Minecraft. the tut videos I downloaded and watched were batch when 1.8.1 beta was out, so perhaps it did change. If so, could someone link me to the proper instructions on how to power these machines?
I don' know any real tutorial series in that sense, but I suggest taking a look at the latest Let's play series by direwolf20 on youtube.
He explains a lot, but he also uses a bunch of other mods, so it might be a bit overwhelming, and hard to get to the topics you are interested in, but it's the best I know of.
Oh and Beta 1.8.1 is way back, there are a lot of changes since then, also the basics still are the same.
I can't tell you a lot about the 1.5.2 version, I'm still on 1.5.1, so you might check the buildcraft forums for further help.
A last question though. Did you change anything in the config? I don't know anything there which would cause engines to not work, but you never know
Other than deleting the Meta-INF file, no I didn't change anything.
I know direwolf's videos as well, and have watched many of them, but I did not find my answer there. I will scope the Buildcraft websote to see if I missed something, and review the videos.
Since you are running 1.5.1, what do you use to power your engines?I feel so retarded....I was using fuel in the engine when I should have been using lava. everything is working properly now. I appreciate your time in helping me. Hope to play with you sometime. Thank you!
I rarely use any of the buildcraft engines anymore.
I usually try to go for Thermal expansions magmatic engines together with a nether lava pump as fast as possible to get a steady supply of MJs. As soon as I then get my autosorting going and got some automatic farms running, I usually try to mix and match renewable ressources. Biogas/Biofuel from Forestry, Steamboilers from Railcraft, peat for low energy stuff, Or sometimes even some electrical engines with solar panels...it all depends a little on what I need the energy for and my mood
Oh and playing with me will be rare, as I don't play smp anymore...if you find a small server which doesn't need all that protection crap like worldguard and stuff feel free to pm me, Chances are that I come and test it, but most likely I'll stay ssp...usually Servers don't have all the mods I like to play with
Oh and don't worry, everyone of us derp a bit from time to time
So I would actually like to clarify something. As for powering the engines, even with redstone powering them with the fuel it needs, does the engine need to "charge" power to be used? As in waiting for it it have enough power to function before it begins working?
Indirectly yes. The power itself per "workunit" doesn't change, but the amount of "workunits" per time changes as the engine warms up. Buildcraft engines put their power out each time the moving part reaches the end.
Other engines from other mods may behave differently though.
So stick it to some redstone with enough fuel and wait?
Well it should run right away, except for the cooldown of combustion engines, just the energy output won't be near maximum until the engines reach the orange/red stages.
If you shut down Combustion engines they need to completly cool down before they'll start up again.
But all you got to do with all engines is povide enough fuel and apply a redstone signal, right.
Well Redstone wire, (or vanilla redstone) does not work. And routing the power through conduction pipes doesn't seem to work either...should I post a screenshot for you to see if I'm even hooking it up right?

I just downloaded this mod, and upon trying it out, I put fuel and redstone power into the engine and it never started up. First time use.
Secondly, is there a way I can make the engine face differently?
Third, as this might help, Redstone Engines only require redstone power right? That doesn't even work.
