Most people who play with Thaumcraft and its assorted addons are familiar with the process of distilling and storing Essentia. It's a vital part of the mod. However, Automating Essentia systems is much harder than it seems. Essentia tubes are prone to clogging, seizing up, and just plain not moving Essentia from point A to Point B. What this Guide aims to do is Teach players How to Properly utilize Essentia tubing, and fully automate Essentia sorting and delivery.
Basic Information:
To start off, We'll look at the mechanics behind Essentia tubes. Essentia tubes function significantly differently from the more familiar pipes of Buildcraft and Thermal Expansion. Rather than automatically transporting the fluid from one block to another, Essentia Tubes rely on 'suction' to move Essentia. Suction is provided by Jars, Buffers, Resiviors, and any mechanism that needs Essentia piped in to function. Suction essentially functions the same as a Redstone signal, growing seeker the further it is from the source. Essential will naturally flow from areas of low suction to high suction. What this means is that all Essentia tubing is functionally one way.
Essentia tubes have one other property that the player needs to be aware of. Each tube can only contain exactly one unit of Essentia. If the Essentia in a tube has nowhere to go, it will remain where it is. This is where clogging happens. When Essentia of the wrong aspect is blocking access to a machine or jar, Essentia will no longer be able to flow properly.
Finally Players can disconnect adjacent tubes by right clicking the connection with any wand.
Moving and Sorting
Essentia buffers are vital for moving large quantities of Essentia. While on It's own, the buffer only provides 1 unit of suction, attaching an Arcane Bellows will increase the suction to 32. By shift right clicking on any connection, a player can change the amount of suction a buffer outputs on that side. A blue band indicates that the suction is limited to 1, while a red band indicates no suction.
To solve the issue of clogging tubes, Utilize a round robin approach. By creating a loop of tubing, and using powered buffers, the player can insure that Essentia always has somewhere to go within a system. Be sure that all suction is one way.
Filtered Essentia tubes are vital for sorting. Filtered tubes will only allow Essentia of a single aspect to pass through. By connecting a filtered tube to a buffer, and providing a source of suction, one can tap Essentia of a single aspect from a line circulating a multitude of different aspects.
