That doesn't change anything, do I need to get the folder back into a .jar file? How do I do that?
Close out of Minecraft.
Go to /Users/YourUserHere/Library/Application Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar.
Right-click it.
Open with Archive Utility.
Drag new terrain.png inside; click OK to replace (if it doesn't ask, you didn't do it right)
Select the contents of your new minecraft folder inside bin (not the actual folder)
Right-click the files
Select Compress
Select your new Archive.zip
Rename it to minecraft.jar.
Drag it to your bin folder, replacing the old minecraft.jar
Play Minecraft
Use search next time
