You know when you craft something in Minecraft, and then you don't even pay attention for a moment and then realize that, you crafted the item you didn't mean to craft or, on console I have a bit of trouble trying to click the right item because the cursor sometimes moves to another item which causes me to accidently craft it, I don't know. I thought it was a good idea to add a block that functions similar to the crafting table but, it does the exact opposite of what its purpose is. Lets say you make a pickaxe, but you didn't need it or something so you get this block and place it, and all you have to do is place the item in the one slot area and the second you do, the UI for the de-crafter thing closes and you get the 2 sticks, and the 3 iron ingots back from the de-crafter. It could also be useful for when you make Iron Blocks or any block type that is crafted from a item, you can use this block and get all of the 9 iron ingots back so you can use the ingots for something else! The block texture itself could look like a normal crafting table, but except it is a different color, or a completely different texture. I don't know, your decision on the texture. The sound it makes when de-crafting can sound like the sound that plays after you use a anvil, the *DING DING DING*. Thank you for reading this, have a nice day.
I like this suggestion, in all my years of playing Minecraft, I've lost count how many times I've accidentally crafted things which I would later repurpose for something after storing in chests but this would definitely be useful. A decraft block, named dismantling table or recycling table would be nice.
Of course you could put the pickaxe into a furnace to get some of the iron back but that's complete garbage, because you only get iron nuggets, not the full ingots you used to craft them and is therefore a highly inefficient way to recycle items, it's like Mojang just assumes everyone builds iron golem farms, I used to in my older worlds, not anymore.
What we need is an efficient way to recycle equipment and a decraft table does fit the description.
Otherwise we just end up wasting ores or zombie drops we would rather use for other things.
just for your info, iron blocks can already be crafted back into 9 iron ingots
The point is this isn't an option for things like tools.
If you attempt to extract resources back from pickaxes or swords via smelting, if gold or iron, you only get a nugget, it doesn't matter if it has full durability or a third, you won't get any iron or gold ingots, and is therefore a highly inefficient way to recycle or repurpose your materials. The point the OP was making is there needs to be a more efficient way to recycle gear in the event you accidentally crafted something you didn't want or had no use for at the time. Most players don't want to waste time with methods that are disproportional to the resources used.

I am aware, and I agree with the suggestion. But he mentioned that it would allow you to get the iron back from iron blocks, I just pointed out that that's already a feature in vanilla.

Also iron blocks are the most efficient way of storing iron, only worth doing if you have a lot of it though. I agree though, this is already a feature, extracting iron ingots from iron blocks. The same can be done with coal and diamonds, they too can be stored as blocks, and turned back into normal coal or diamond items when needed.
There would have to be more limitations now that 1.16 exists. Example, Nether fortresses would be less valuable because you can de-craft Nether Wart blocks into, even at only getting 1/9 of the parts, a nether wart, and then you can farm them. Just keep your accidental tool for your next death so you can re-gear and recover your items.

Yea its a cool idea 💙
Do you think worn tools should work in the de-crafter? If so, how exactly?
I dont think it should, but if did id only give the player half of the items required to build it, if not a quarter
This would be a great addition to Minecraft as I often craft the wrong item [e.g. crafting a bucket instead of a pickaxe on bedrock]
This would also be helpful if you craft 2 of the same item accidentally.

If the tools are worn, then half or a quarter of the materials should be extracted from said item.
If a iron pickaxe is down to 1/3 durability or less, then it (the decrafter) should return only 1 iron ingot to the player, not a full 3 iron ingots.
If less than 1/3 durability, then no stick.
