I've got the news that Minecraft Forum is somewhat shutting down in less than two weeks, I'm very sorry to hear about this and I am really sad to see it go. I'm very happy that it's atleast staying read-only, but the fact that it's going like this, and that Minecraft is still alive and thriving, while the Forum is turning to ashes, is very hard to hear.
Anyways, I'd like to post a rant that I started writing on a YouTube video but decided not to post it there and instead carry it to the Minecraft Forum here where it can be cemented in history as Minecraft Forum is getting turned to an inactive solid like petrified wood. No one would have been able to find nor read it, and it would just have attracted the usual YouTube trolls. This rant is coming genuinely from me, as I've been upset with some of the things happening with the game I've grown up with since Minecraft Beta 1.6.6, the 15th of June, 2011, and even before that date as I had been introduced to the game by JJ5x5, Batclone, PaperbatVG, and Davidr64yt with their unique playthroughs of the game.
Warning: These rants are very critical, especially of Microsoft, and may potentially be somewhat offensive, if any of this offends you, please do not hesitate to let me know. It's just that I'm incredibly frustrated at what has been going on for a while.
First rant: Broken Java Edition updates.
1.14 will finally be fixed in 1.14.3 (hopefully), all the problems from the massive amount of lighting glitches in 1.14.2 and every single annoying bug that has existed since 1.14's original launch (like that absolutely unbearable, God-awful server lag, no matter how powerful or optimized the server is, no matter where it's located). How do these things go unnoticed? It's getting ridiculous, an update should have one update, one release that comes with everything working as intended.
1.14 has been everything but stable, literally a burning garbage fire of bugs. 1.13's original release wasn't really that great either when it came to bugs, and in 1.13.2, there's still yet another bug that should have easily been noticed (using bonemeal on grass will place a double-tall grass block where you used it, this was fixed in 1.14)
This is what happens when you completely rely on players for bug finding/fixing and feedback and don't have a dedicated testing team, there should be both of these things as both of them have great qualities of their own. But no, says Microsoft, we need to save and gain more money.
Rant #1 over.
Second rant: Bedrock Edition and Microsoft.
Why does Bedrock Edition have everything from texturepacks, modpacks, shaders, to skins and custom maps, ONLY available to obtain via real life money through microtransactions? Why do people prefer this version over Java Edition on PC, when Java Edition has all of that free as standard!?
Windows 10 Edition/Bedrock Edition doesn't let you choose what update you can play on and forces you to update when updates do come, not to mention the Windows 10 completely forced monthly updates and restarts, the sound is still incredibly buggy on surround sound headphones, I'm not sure about regular headphones, and yes, sure it's nice that it's cross-platform and is written in a lighter, easier coding language, but my big problem with it is the fact that now they've recently announced that they're adding a modding platform of sorts, when the Java Edition community has been begging for that for several years and instead they release it on Microsoft's knockoff version of Minecraft!
Microsoft also rebranded the game, which I don't think too many people have noticed. Have you seen, and this is easily understandable on the front of the Minecraft Wiki page, the fact that the original Java Edition of Minecraft is written and branded as "Java Edition", when the Bedrock/Windows 10 Edition is written as just "Minecraft" even though Java Edition both came first and is, for the most part, what the game truly is. A sandbox with neverending possibilities and only runs out of them when your brain chooses to stop having ideas of what to do, build, or create. Minecraft is endless and has now turned 10 years old, as well as now breaking the record of the #1 best selling game in the entire world. Minecraft has officially sold more than Tetris!
I do think Notch feels disgraced about what Microsoft has done to his creation, his invention. Microsoft has even excluded Notch from the Minecraft Anniversary because Notch has been on Twitter giving his own personal right-leaning (conservative/republican or whatever) political opinions. That's completely uncool, how is that even justified? Minecraft is his game, he even says "yep, that's my game" in such a happy tone at the end of the Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition release trailer. It's an insult that he's been excluded from the anniversary mainly because of an opposing political view from the corporation that bought his own game from him for 2 billion dollars.
I've also started to wonder, and this is pretty much just conspiracy, so take it with a grain of salt, if they are purposely leaving things broken in the Java Edition updates starting with and after 1.13, to push people to Bedrock Edition where they have to pay real money to get anything cosmetic or customizable, which is one of the biggest things about Java Edition, the fact that everything after the initial purchase of the game except for Realms and server hosting, is completely free of charge, unless it's a premium mod/plugin made by the players themselves.
Rant #2 over.
Third rant: Combat Systems, New Combat vs. Old Combat.
I've heard some people tell me they prefer Windows 10 Edition because of the old combat system, and I've also heard that literally 80% of the playerbase actually prefers the old combat as well. I'm part of the 20% that actually gave it a chance and ended up genuinely really liking it, it makes things more fun in my opinion and adds what was a much-needed challenge to the combat system. I've had several people who were diehard old combat fans tell me that the old combat system "requires more skill and uses timing just as much" which is the opposite of the truth in my honest opinion.
Every combat system, no matter how similar or different, uses timing. The new combat just requires you to be more precise, unlike the old combat which requires you to replace your left mouse button and/or index finger muscles at the end of the week. New combat adds shields, which are hella awesome against mobs and are balanced against players if the opponent facing their enemy with a shield has an axe. Axes disable shields for a brief moment after hitting a raised shield! Hacked clients aren't as effective at KillAura in the new combat, as it takes slightly longer to strike.
I've also heard and seen something called "jitterclicking", invented/discovered and popularized by kids and unwary teenagers, and told to me by a diehard old combat fan, about how it works, along with an example video. My big problem with it is the fact it even exists, and the fact you could easily do real bodily harm to yourself while doing it. Basically, you use your arm and wrist muscles to vibrate your finger, which lets you rapidly click the mouse. This can cause bad cramping, muscle tension, and even jamming to the finger if you do it a lot. I tried it only once and my entire arm hurt, all the way to and including the elbow. This is complete insanity to have even been invented/discovered, and I'm shocked it was even made popular.
Anyways, axes actually become better than swords in the new combat system, only downsides being slightly more costly to craft than swords, not that this matters too much, inability to strike multiple enemies at the same time, and slower attack speed than swords. They also lose two durability from attacking, unlike swords losing one durability. They break faster, but give you an advantage against shield-bearers and high health enemies.
Someone I once had a shameful (on my side and his) argument with, told me about "jitterclicking", "rodding" (use of a fishing rod for combat), and other terms that I actually had to Google because I had never heard of them before, even though I have become above-average (not "pro" or "good" by some standards, but good enough to understand how the exact timing and mechanics work) fighter in the new combat system. Hackers are also much harder to detect in the old combat system, but easy to do so in the new combat system as absolutely everyone makes mistakes and absolutely no one can have perfect hit timing, hitting every single strike.
The old combat system needed a big change, a breath of fresh air, and the fact that so many people use 1.8 clients and so many servers integrate plugins like ViaVersion and OldCombatMechanics really, really annoys me. It's hard to find a 1.12.2, 1.13.2 or 1.14.3 (soon) server that is actually what the version says it is and doesn't hide old combat and/or multiple clients in the same server.
The old combat system has existed since Minecraft has first existed, and I completely understand that some people prefer and like it better than the new combat due to nostalgia purposes, as I frequently look for things of my past playthrough of Minecraft, especially in the golden age (2012 era) of Minecraft. I also very much dislike the 1.14 texture changes completely due to nostalgia purposes, yet I understand why they were done and am glad they made it so that you can still use the old textures.
I'm actually kind of surprised that AntVenom much prefers the old combat system, but I have known of him for a very long time (not personally) and I absolutely respect him and love his videos and his work. He's an awesome guy, incredible person to know and see, and I completely agree with his compromise he came up with for the combat systems with the idea to add a /gamerule that could toggle what combat system is on the world. I also would like to mention his glorious win in the Minecraft Hunger Games tournament of 2015, that was amazing and well thought-out on his part. I also think that Minecraft Hunger Games was the original Battle Royale or atleast what started it all.
But sometimes change is needed, whether it be the entire combat system or default textures. If I could describe the old combat system in one word, I would describe it like this: Insanity.
Rant #3 over.
I'm sure I've forgotten one thing, if not multiple, but I've wanted to get all this stuff off of my chest for a long time now. If you, dear reader, have read the entirety of this rant, I thank you very much for doing so. It means a lot to me. If anyone has a response to say or wants to word their own personal opinion of these things or anything related to problems with Mincraft/Microsoft, don't be afraid to voice them. I actually would love to see what other people have to say.

Why does Bedrock Edition have everything from texturepacks, modpacks, shaders, to skins and custom maps, ONLY available to obtain via real life money through microtransactions?
This is not accurate. On my Windows 10 systems and my Android systems, I can download and install these for free from websites that host them. They come in the *.mcpack or *.mcworld file setup (essentially a renamed zip file). I imagine iOS users and XBOX users may have some work-around to get this accomplished, but it's really easy on the devices I have.
I am not a fan of the new combat system, and I'm glad it's not on Bedrock yet. I was never a pvp type, so for me it's just making it a little more different to kill mobs. I can deal with it when I have to. I do like the shield though, and I'm happy that it is on Bedrock.

I have been searching for several minutes now on the Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Store, and have yet to see anything marked as "free". Even if anything is "free", it would most likely be little tidbits to give you a taste of that sweet, sweet microtransaction goodness before they get you hooked.
These .mcpack and .mcworld files you mention, why pay 6$ for something that comes completely free on a different version of the game? Thing is, if you go into your Minecraft: WIndows 10 Edition game directory, if you are even able to figure out how to do that in the first place as Windows restricts the "WindowsApps" folder from you on your own computer even with Administrator privileges, literally YOUR own computer and your own copy of the Operating System...
Then it won't even let you edit, copy, or delete ANY of the files in the WindowsApps directory if you somehow even figure out how to weasel your way in there even though Microgarbage doesn't want you to. They don't want people doing to their cash cow what they were able to do with love and freedom with Java Edition that was created by Markus "Notch" Persson.
So even if you download those packs off of the hosting websites, how are you even supposed to put them in your files? Nowhere in the store did I read anything that said "free". Just 6$ - 12$ things that normally would come standard as FREE on Java Edition.
As for the combat system, I won't linger on this too much as I know it's useless to fight 80% of the playerbase about it, but in my honest opinion in makes fighting mobs much easier. Sprint hitting to knock anything back and then having brief moments of not sprinting or jumping which allows you to do the swipe attack and deal damage to groups of enemies like zombie hordes. In my opinion once again, new combat is better. It teaches you both timing and patience, something the old combat system is barely able to accomplish.
Just a minor correction to let you know, by the way: You said "yet" about new combat and the Bedrock Edition, they actually aren't going to, because they see a mess on Java Edition due to the combat update, it drove the community into two halves. So no, Bedrock Edition will continue to have the same exact kind of combat they've had since the real game was first released.

I assumed it was obvious that I was talking about 3rd party content, not the things in the store. My bad. Check out MCPEDL.COM, it's just one of many sites of it's kind. And about not having access to your game files on Windows 10, I think you might be misinformed
It's right there, and there's no settings preventing me from changing anything. I go to minecraft.net and download the vanilla resource and behavior packs. Then I can edit them myself, especially the fishing.json file
Regarding the combat, it's already awkward on mobile devices using the shield. I'm not sure how they could/would implement the sweeping edge and what have you onto a touch screen control.
