Before the better together update I had a world with a mob grinder, since the better together update i made a new world and me and my friends share a realm, we built the exact same mob grinder however now it doesn't produce even near the amount it did before, so I downloaded that old world and it still works great.
This is the grinder I have on both worlds. Both are high and well lit, and both are made just like in the video. And I just don't understand why it isn't producing the same amount.
Have you checked to make sure it is actually dark inside the spawner? There have been issues in the past where light would pass through blocks it wasn't supposed to be able to pass through. I don't recall if this version has ever had this particular problem but console edition has so might be worth checking.

i just discovered why my old world worked and my new one doesn't, on my old world I had cheats turned on and there is a option called mob spawning, I turned it off and it no longer worked.
Several things were changed in the BT update for all editions. Many things work the same, some work different. Again, "All 'minecrafts' are not the same!" The BT edition works different than any "Minecraft" before it, just as there were differences between previous MC editions. Instead of assuming or thinking that it "should" work like "Minecraft", we should embrace the "new" way it actually works.
That said, remember that this is the first version of BT. There hasn't been a update yet (except for Store updates), so expect changes. Wait for 1.3
I posted something a couple of weeks ago about this. My realms buddies made me tear down the mob grinder because it was an eyesore and only produced 10 or so of each drop over the course of a week.
My guess is, that since the Realms server is perpetual, it is continually spawning monsters at night and in caves, even when no-one is actually playing. So due to all the other monsters spawned, the 16x16 or whatever dark space for the mob grinder is insufficient, as there are billions of other places for mobs to spawn.
Someone should make a super flat world with no caves and the floor made of glowstone or something light emitting, then build the mob trap and see if it works at the efficiency we are "used" to from the Xbox edition or whatever (the edition before Bedrock). My guess is it will work the same as it used to, because in this test, there are no caves or other spawnable areas for the mobs to spawn, other than the grinder.
So if that is right, which it probably isn't, cause I am no expert, a mob grinder on Realms Bedrock will require lighting up a huge area, around everyone's bases and general travel paths, and all the caves underneath.

That's a ps4 edition video.
All "minecrafts" are not the same.
I'd stick to BT videos.
