There is no reason for my family to keep playing this edition until the lighting/spawning bugs are fixed. We have had our survival world home destroyed no less than 6 times by Creepers spawning inside fully lit rooms and hallways. Each time I have to restore the realm from a previous backup losing hours of playtime, or spend hours fixing the immense item sorters etc. we have built.
Today was the last time. Cancelling Realm subscription until Mojang can release a more polished game.
Turn off "Smooth Lighting" and replace your torches. Problem solved (you'll need your sun glasses).
Now, I do agree that "smooth lighting torches" don't put out much light, but "non-smooth lighting torches" put out way too much light. Hopefully they'll balance them out in the future. (But I wouldn't say it's "unplayable").
Traditionally, mobs wouldn't spawn if the light level was 7 or above. However, there's no way in the Bedrock versions to tell what the light level actually is, so you have to go with the ole "brighter is better" rule of thumb. So, in other words, turn off "smooth lighting", replace the torches, and that should solve your problem.
I've disabled all graphical improvements including smooth lighting, and replaced all torches in our home (one every other block on the floor). Mobs are still spawning.
Pretty sure at this point it's not a bug with smooth lighting, but a glitch in mob spawning (or how light level is calculated).
That could be (the new torches are brighter, right?)
Now, if the brighter lighting isn't stopping the spawning of (hostile) mobs, it might indeed be a bug. In that case you need to report it so it will get fixed. To do that, go here: https://bugs.mojang.com/secure/Dashboard.jsp
I think there may be a serious over-spawning issue, Realm or non-Realm! I work in Minecraft Windows 10/PE (aka Bedrock and Better Together), usually in Creative Mode, Peaceful. I recently switched to Normal level, so that so-called new mobs would spawn. Cute mobs, like giraffes. Soon learned that the new mobs are replacements, in some cases of hostile mobs. Giraffe replaces Witch. I don't know whether sharks are original or replacements, but the sharks are spawning by the thousands, attacking each other, continuously, in many bays and seas. I perceive that this excess, unwanted spawning in Normal level, may be slowing, locking up, disconnecting, and/or crashing the game. Such that the only way out is Task Manager. This happens solo, and when on my trial of Realm. On Realm, it is worse. The only help I have found is from Minecraft experts in YouTube. This forum and the bug reporting sites are extremely time consuming, labor intensive, to deal with. The but reporting site usual response to posts is irrelevant, wrong area, duplicate, and or Resolved, and requires hours of sorting through numerous links, with no real answers. Realms may have potential to be very useful, but for now, there are sill many issues with Better Together, and the Realms.
I believe 1.2.3 has addressed the lighting issue. Cant say it was affecting me to be honest. In fact, I haven't had a mob spawn in my base since playing bedrock, but used to get it quite often in the old console version. Maybe your torches are too far apart?

There's many complaints about the lighting.

Wait, you're saying a graphical setting, smooth lighting, is changing mob spawn behavior? Surely the Bedrock engineers aren't that dense (Pun intended).
Indirectly..... maybe.

Replacing torches seems extreme. There is probably thousands of torches in our world. I can't imagine this being a viable option for many people.
You only need to replace (or add a new one to the existing ones) in areas that need them (like your home).

just play java or console editions i think these are the only editions which are playable
huh, that doesn't happen to me...(well I am playing on the Pocket Edition, maybe there's a difference)
anyways...guess your luck is bad
put windows that let in light from the roof. Might solve it.
