I think this is the right place to place this thread; apologies if it is not.
For YEARS my friends and I have on-and-off played Minecraft on the 360 and then the Xbox One. We have always wanted a private Realms server to play on, so we didn't have to go to each other's house to play split screen. We could play in the same world at our own pace on our own time, due to life responsibilities and whatnot. We are all in our 30s, we don't care if we have to pay 10 bucks a month or whatever. We don't want MMO-level servers; we want private, as it would just be like 5-7 friends and myself playing.
I have been researching the Better Together update, and I can't seem to find a 100% definitive answer - will Minecraft Realms be one of the servers to play on with the big Better Together update? Or is it just going to be a bunch of huge MMO servers? Certain news articles hint at Realms, others don't mention it. Does anyone have a definitive answer?
I am excited with the updates, but I really want to see Realms. Thanks for any info you can give,
From what I have read; at first we are going to get just MMO servers, the biggest and most popular that are on PC will head our way first. Later on in the fall we are supposed to be getting realms. I would say not to expect it right away after the better together update lands, but more so a month or two after.
Because they're journalists. Mojang releases a press release that's poorly worded, Journalists ask questions and get clarifications. That's basically how every company works.
"The Better Together update brings Bedrock to the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions of Minecraft, allowing them to play with nearly every other version of the game. With the update, participating consoles get Realms (the game's multiplayer mode), plus the newly launched Community Marketplace. Any existing worlds will transfer directly to Bedrock, as will all DLC players have purchased. The update also brings infinite worlds to Xbox One and Switch, up from the current, limited grid of about 3 miles by 3 miles."
Good detective work. Seemed like everyone was wondering the same question I originally asked. Because a couple of google searched articles DO mention Realms, but they are on non-official and not-so-reputable sites.
I trust your leg work, if that is one of Mojang's marketing staff, then Realms is definitely confirmed.
They don't always feel the need to bullet point every detail; no press release does. They said all our worlds would transfer. They didn't just mean on Xbox, they meant all and that means W10 and PE realms are included. We are basically getting the W10 code on Xbox and all features currently built into that.
Personally I can't wait for the update. Yeah there are some things that we will need to do to prepare our worlds, such as gather a few pigs, chickens, and cows, because they will no longer spawn in droves like they used to, and we will need to breed them, like PC users do, but its a big step forward for us. The spawn rates will return to where they were years ago, potions will become so much more useful. No need in worrying about stupid bugs that should have been caught before the release that renders our worlds dead for several weeks on end, not to mention that we will now be pretty much in control of our own limits, with no more limits to villagers, and passive mobs.
The only disadvantage is the lack of Quasi connectivity, but I can live with that. I've watched another thread where people were upset about this very issue but its not that big of a deal, as panda4994 pointed out in many of his vids there are ways around this very issue where they were debating on removing it from the PC version.
In my current world right now I'm doing alot of digging, which is really hard on the tools, and i used to use potatoes and carrots farmed by villagers to trade with to repair them, sadly this is currently broken, and I cant stand how long it takes at any mob farm to repair them, even when the farm is clear of 128 blocks around the farm, the spawn rates are just stupidly slow.
I have another scenario? Suppose OP gets an XBOX One for his daughter for xmas and has the Minecraft for Windows 10. Will they be able to play together on a local network without having to buy XBOX Live Gold? Currently, someone using the pocket edition can connect to Minecraft for Windows 10 (same edition) over a local network without having to join realms. I'm just wondering if the Better Together Update will work in the same manner. Also, another related question that isn't abundantly clear: If the OP buys an XBOX One S Minecraft edition for his daughter for xmas, will she still get the free update to the Better Together edition if she opens it on Dec 25? (The FAQ says its a free upgrade for owners of the original game up until the official release date for the new edition.)

Yes, Realms will be one of the options.

I believe it was mentioned that realms would be heading to the switch edition, but was not mentioned for any other addition.
My guess is they're working on it.

Google is your friend lol. Unfortunately this forum is usually woefully misinformed.
"Play Online Right Away With In-Game Servers
All versions of Minecraft will feature in-game servers you can jump in and join right from the menu.
This includes the most basic, obvious and awesome servers at launch: Mineplex, inPVP, Lifeboat, and Cubecraft.
Minecraft: Realms is still supported, duh, and you'll be able to access your private servers from any updated version of Minecraft."
I personally do not trust anything until it is official.

That Twitter is from one of Mojang's marketing staff.
So yes, it's confirmed, end of story.

And finally, this is the X1 world import menu. With the Realms free trial button on it.

So bring on the new update, and to hell with 4J.
Finally after days of searching..
I can play windows 10 mc, with friends on mcpe.
But i cant play with my daughter yet when she is on the 360. Correct? (if im on win10)
ty.
Right. Last gen versions (360, PS3, WiiU) will not get the Better Together update. Neither will PS4.
Oh, so even though i have a realm, my kid will never be able to join it?
Is there a MC Version i can buy for her to get on my realm?
Xbox One, Xbox One X, Pocket edition, and Windows 10 Edition will all be rolled into one single edition with cross-platform play and realms enabled.
The reason the Xbox 360 is not one of the versions applicable is due to hardware limitations.
The Nintendo Switch version will also be cross playing. Only the PS4 and last gen consoles and Java are excluded from it.
guess i need to get a one then ;\
Thank you all for everything.

To play online with an Xbox requres Gold, period.
