Forgive me if there is another thread, but my search turned up empty.
Since the last update, creeper damage has significantly increased for me. Previously, if I was in full, unenhanced iron armor, I could take a point blank creeper blast and survive. Now if a creeper goes off close to me, I die. I have died easily ten times in the last few days to creepers that get sneak up and go off.
Needless to say, this has made my Minecraft experience less than enjoyable. Anyone know what has changed? Is there a setting I can change? Creepers were already pushing me away from their game due to their propensity to wreck everything I build, even during daylight. Now the game is all but unplayable.
I've been running a Xbox one world with my friends and I have noticed the same if I back away then I might live with a few hearts, but if the creeper is right next to me, I'm dead. I always play on hard mode, so that might be it, but I'm not sure. If you're playing on normal or hard consider reducing to easy.
The creeper is the mob we love to hate. A staple of minecraft, I don't think the game would be the same without it.
That being said, I would suggest developing strategies to deal with them:
1. play on peaceful
2. go to sleep as soon as it starts to get dark so no hostile mobs spawn
3. surround yourself with cats
4. secure the area you plan to work in so that the creepers can't get to you (use fences, moats, lava etc.)
5. develop the ability to constantly look for green creeper sized objects in your peripheral vision (I suspect many of us that have been playing a while have done this)
6. Wear better armor
I'm sure there are other options as well.
Annoying? Yes. Destructive? Yes. Iconic? Yes. Game breaking? No.
Literally millions of people have found some way to continue playing this game despite creepers so I'm sure you too can find a way if you really want to.
Not only do the Creepers do more damage but the sound they make appears to be dampened down. So they are sneakier on their approach.
They also seem to have enhanced defenses. Where I could previously 1 hit them with an enchanted diamond sword, they now take two hits. Additionally, their response time before exploding doesn't reset when hit and they explode quicker.
My defense has changed to arrows or a sword with at least level two knockback. This seems to throw them far enough away that they do reset and you can take them down with a second hit with a lessor sword. I also build lots of water/cactus pits and can decoy them into falling and dying that way. Especially good defense at the start of a game when you don't have any armor or good weapons to equip yourself with.
On, a related issue, the Skeletons also seem to have gotten an enhancement. Previously, I could drink a speed potion and run up,and kill them before they were able to get a shot off. Now just as I swing my sword they seem to side step and not only does my sword swing miss, but my speed puts them behind me and they start shooting me in the back doing about three hearts of damage with each hit.
I basically have to walk up to them or they keep side stepping. So, it also takes at least two hits to kill them even with enchanted swords and potions.
Agsin my defense has been to rely more on the arrows and distance kills to handle them. Of course the pit traps help, with them as well.
Zombies and Spiders still go down relatively quickly, but even they seem a little more durable.
I guess my question for the developers would be, are we correct in what we are seeing? And, if so exactly what was changed. Did they make a change so the Hard setting would be harder in survival mode?

Good luck.
