Okay, 4J recently tweeted that there will be Mash-up Packs in the next update, which is an exclusive to MCX360 i believe, here's the tweet for all you people who think i am lying, https://twitter.com/4jstudios/status/360361438247788547 . Basically a Mash-up Pack is a Pack that makes Minecraft look like another game. It has textures, music, skin packs, user interfaces, and themed worlds to make Minecraft look like another game. Yes, but don't take my word for it, i believe we will be getting texture packs https://twitter.com/4JStudios/status/360358751615721472 . So say you get a Mash-up Pack to make Minecraft look like CoD, The M.U.P would include texture packs similar to CoD, Music similar to CoD, and themed worlds that replicate CoD maps and so on. So im asking YOU what Mash-up Pack would you like to see to make Minecraft look like what game?
Like what phoenix said what I would like to see borderlines infringement. After all I would like seeing something like final fantasy/dragon warrior style. If not that just something similar at least fantasy adventure themed...
Over all I really hold no interest in the mash-up packs. I only really want to see texture packs. It is a good thing that they are coming out with those mash-ups, but hopefully there will be texture packs that are separately sold as well in a pack of 3 a least.
I am more into having a RPG Fantasy Adventure style textures than anything, like dokucraft series of textures they have on the pc. I can only give an example of what I would like to see.
I dread the thought of a COD mash-up pack... that is a scary thought...><
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
If 4J gets the approval to use copyrighted images for skinpacks its reasonable to assume that they can get it for mash-up packs. Other devs would be stupid not to allow it, especially if they get a chunk of the profits (and do you doubt there won't be people buying CoD or Halo mashes?). Besides, its doubtful they would make a public statement about it without reasonable surety in its execution.
Personally, I really don't care if my MC game looks like a different game. Im much more excited about regular texture packs.
Why would mash-up packs need to be limited to licenced products? I mean, why not have a Steampunk Western mash-up, or a generic sci-fi mash with "light swords" and bows that look and sound like rayguns?
Everything that comes to mind would end up as copyright infringement.
Uhh...Crash Bandicoot would be interesting since T.W.o.C. is in the marketplace....
The holders/owners of copyrights can always opt to grant or sell permission to use the materials to third parties; in which case no copyright infringement would exist.

This is more appealing to me.
Quite true. I wouldn't mind seeing some generic themes - pirates, space and aliens, old west, ancient egyptian, ancient orient, etc. If the licenses could be obtained, I would also like perhaps a Toy Story or Jade Empire mash-up.
When you say theme world's you make it seem like it's a special seed with a world of pre-generated structures? So I get the ideal texture packs will just change the texture, while the theme world's will be pre-build world's similar to their tutorial worlds. Do you think this is what 4jstudios is trying to hint to us?

It may be prebuilt worlds; but I'm sort of leaning towards the styles of architecture for, say, villages, strongholds and fortresses changing to match a particular theme, with perhaps the addition of some other auto-generated structures (say, like random sunken wrecks in a pirate themed pack)... Something a little bit beyond a change of texture but not as "set" (or a labour intensive) as building pre-built worlds.

I'm not entirely sure the "architecture" of structures is going to change. That would require that each mash pack replaces the underlying code responsible for generating structures. If thats the case, expect each pack to cost somewhere around 10 USD due to the extensive coding involved.
It might be the case, who's to say... but its more likely mash-up packs are just what 4J have said: a combination of texture packs and custom music, sounds and interfaces.

They said all of that AND "themed worlds." Why add that into the statement if it means nothing more than the other four? Also, changing the underlying structure generation code and charging for the pack accordingly IS something that 4J can legitimiately do that the modders on the PC perhaps really can't.

But it still just speculation.
"Themed worlds" is very ambiguous. All it does is describe "all of that". Until 4J makes a statement that comes right out and says mash packs are going to include customized structure code there's no reason to believe that they will.
And the open source agreement prohibits modders from charging for content on the PC. Im not really sure where you were going with that last bit...

Agree, in this instance, I am clearly speculating (Why not... isn't everybody else on this thread?) From the beginning, I've made it clear that I am speculating (hence, it said I was "leaning" towards...).
Where I was going with the last bit is that, as a legitimate party to the Xbox 360 development agreement, 4J may be able to do some things that modders can't... eg1: 4J may be in a better position to negotiate for higher-profile licenses to use elements from other games (like music), particularly if it's Microsoft who owns the copyrights to those games or controls the companies that do own those copyrights; and eg 2: 4J will be able to charge money for the packs themselves; whereas, it is my understanding that modders have to provide their mods for free under the terms of use with Mojang). While many people will rightly say that they won't pay for the exact something they can get for free on the PC, they may be more inclined to pay for something they can't get for free... particularly if it's truly better than what's available for free.
As said, it's all speculation. Once we starting getting a look at the actual mash-up packs, we'll all know for sure. 'Nough said.

We seem to be in 100% agreement here. I was only opining on your statement about alternate structures and gave a rough cost estimate. I never made any claim that 4J/Microsoft couldn't charge for mash-up packs. Either you misread my post, misunderstood my post, or you're intentionally trying to bait me. I can excuse two of those.

You asked where I was going with my statement.... so I merely attempted to answer your question. I never said you claimed that 4J couldn't charge. I'm saying that modders can't charge and this potentially gives 4J an advantage in that, because they can charge, they can also invest in things like buying copyright licenses and in delving deeper into changing code to make variations in the auto-structures possible.
Halo would be pretty cool. Endermen would look like elites and zombies could be grunts. Plus Microsoft owns halo so there wouldn't be copyright problems.
I know they're movies, not games, but a Lord of the Rings theme would be awesome. Orc skins for the zombies, maybe the endermen could look like Nazgûl?
Uhh...Crash Bandicoot would be interesting since T.W.o.C. is in the marketplace....
Stay fluffy~
