I would like there to be a way where console players could be able to create their own skins. I know skin packs are created for money, but really, I'm tired of it. I mean sure skin packs are fun and all, but I would like to put some of my creativity into my own skin. Isn't that what Minecraft is about? Creativity? And I know there can be problems with this, but I would hopefully like to see a way for custom skins to be made in the future. I'm just wanting to know, if there will ever be a way for console players to create there own custom skins like they do on PC and other related platforms?
The only way I can see this working is if you can sign in with your Mojang/Minecraft account on a Console. Considering consoles can already access the internet, I think that's entirely feasible.

My avatar is a texture from a small block game I made in Python. It's not very good and it probably won't work if you install it.
I'm very alone in my Minecraft worlds as I don't have a very good internet connection to run a server. If you're like me, you might be interested in my Posse mod suggestion.

I love this idea, but there's one huge roadblock standing in the way. Microsoft. If Mojang allows custom skins, then they will start losing money (because why would you buy a skin pack if you can just re-create on of theirs or design your own skin?) which means Microsoft wont allow it. Im not going to go into the in's and out's of it all, but in simple terms, Microsoft doesnt care too much about what Mojang does so long as it doesnt hurt Microsofts rep and brings in a net profit. Basically, in order for custom skins to be implemented, they would have to cost quite a bit. Most likely, they would only be available if you bought a PS Plus or Xbox Live membership and even then they would cost a pretty penny.
Someone had an idea of this in a live stream I watched, he was thinking maybe you could download skins from the PC, then port then them to a bedrock edition such as pocket, then have the skins for the console and then have them with your xbox one, but there are some problems with this theory though. Firstly, this is just for Xbox Live players, what about PlayStation, or Nintendo Switch? And some people don't want to pay another 10 bucks just for custom skins.
But there is also another even more important aspect to consider:
There is a huge difference between an "open" environment (PC), and a "closed" one (console).
Limiting the choices to predefined skins, of which Microsoft own all the rights, means automatically avoiding
big groups of potential problems that could come from suing/litigation:
- Offensive skins (nude skins for example). Average player age is much lower on console than on PC so that counts.
- Other types of "offsensive" skins that could cause arguments, or that parents would prefer not having to explain away.
(Klu Klux Klan, Hitler, religious icons, etc.)
- Characters trademarked by other companies. Gee whiz, Mario Bro skin on a Microsoft console. Wham, royalties!
So limiting skins is basically more "secure" against all kinds of potential lawsuits. Expecting for this to ever change is a bit of an irrational pink-cloud-lined wish, nothing more.

@Ouatcher, That is something i didn't even consider and adds more weight to the scales against custom skins being added. Although, i suppose that this could easily be avoided by adding an option to display custom skins (which would be set to 'off' by default) and including a disclaimer. Yes, although this doesnt get rid of the problem entirely (it just merely hides it and disassociates Microsoft and Mojang from any blame) it does make the idea more viable. If this was coupled with a reporting system for inappropriate skins - where, if you were reported enough times within a certain time frame, you would be unable to use custom skins for a certain length of time - then the sugestion for custom skins becomes even more viable. (Although, this is somewhat undermimed by the amount of effort that would be needed just to get custom skins.)
I have to disagree with MS profits being the hold back. Bethesda, for example, has Skyrim and Fallout that allow mods of basically every sort. Some dramatically improve visuals, others add an entirely new world.

Total agreement with you Liam_Morris.

Both are available for console DL
