So What do you guys think, after this new announcement of merging Xbox one and Nintendo Switch, is it time to say goodbye to Xbox 360, or will the Xbox 360 community stay alive?
I think it will continue for at least a few more years. Eventually people will migrate away from the older gen consoles and at some point it won't be monetarily feasible to continue support for the older consoles. That's probably not going to happen for a while though.
4J will probably continue to develop the old gen versions for a while, at least untill its not profitable anymore. I'm not sure we have years though, maybe more like a year and a half. The core user group that still owns old gen are younger players and they will likely be upgrading soon (with the possible exception of wii u owners). We're already at the point where new game development for old gen is virtually non-existent, and microsoft and sony are no longer producing old gens. The fact that the wii u is relatively new (compared to the 360 or ps3) will probably keep development alive for a while though. My hope is that the lightened workload on 4j will result in faster bugfixes, as some of the bugs we're dealing with are years old.
It's slowly dying out more and more. I hosted my map series for years and saw the decline in players and overall interest in the game.
I myself gave up and am rebuilding the series from the ground up on the PC, and joy of all joys, I don't have to break the ToS just to get a freaking mob spawner and barriers.
They will stop generating the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PSVita eventually, but Xbox 360 has the best system of all by far (in terms of the way the console works, not framerate.
