Hey guys, I know there are a lot of people on these forums with some major talent, and I was hoping this could become a thread where aspiring builders, and even great builders can get tips from the others in the community.
I consider myself an amateur builder and I would like tips and hints on how to improve my building, but let this become a place of learning for everyone in our community.
So this thread is just a building guide/ tips thread?
Essentially, yes. It's going to be a place to give tips and tricks to amateur builders, and perhaps teach more experienced builders things they didn't know.
It may seem pleasant and make you feel good on the inside, but it is evil. Variety, whether with blocks or with structure, is key to any great creation in Minecraftia. Hope that made sense.
2.) (Optional) - Use google image or youtube if you want to have a guideline of your build or help give you a better ideal.
3.) Get an ideal of the building materials you want to use. Experiment with different materials.
4.) Location- Choose a location that you think will be best for the project your working on. Since xbox 360 minecraft version always being updated try to leave room, if you plan on adding on to your project for future updates.
5.) Decoration and Detail try to be creative and decorate your structure inside and out. Nothing more boring than seeing a bunch of huge empty structures.
6.) Lighting and placement. It important to have good lighting and where you place it can just make your project look nicer.
7.) Landscape - Having a good landscape will make your projects look nicer than just having a building on some grass try experimenting with tree leaves as bushes use fence post or iron bars to mark of private sections. Add a couple of trees if the area is suitable for it.
8.) Biomes (Optional) - Although many people prefer to build huge structures on flat lands. I think buildings look so much better on naturally generated maps. When you take your time and build on naturally generated maps your projects look so much better because, You will have trees, hills, mountains, sand, lake and oceans that you can build around instead of just building on a flat surface.
This list is just a ideal of basic things to consider when you build their a lot of other details left out though.

Stay away from overly flat walls
Don't overuse one material, have a good, even mix
Most of this is based on building style so I can't really give specific tips without saying omg build exactly like me

Often a screenshot is worth a thousand words and will spark an "Aha!" light bulb that text alone can not.
Example: don't make a house out of diamond blocks =/
