I have Minecraft XBOX 360 Edition, and I was wondering what the major differences were between the PC version and the XBOX 360 version. I also have a couple of questions: Is there the end portal in XBOX 360 edition? Is there brewering in XBOX?
Depends on what you mean by major, I gues. There aren't any Jungle biomes (nor ocelots), no temples, no strongholds, no abandoned mineshafts, no villages, no enchantment tables, and no potion brewing. No End, nor ender dragon, nor endermen. From what I've heard, 4J is working to bring all these features to the XBox version though.
The single major difference in my opinion is the versions.
Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition is equivalent to the PCs Beta 1.6.6 (The Xbox version itself is not a Beta). The PC is currently on it's official release 1.2.5, soon to be 1.3.
Once they get closer to eachother though, I think a lot of people won't really have a problem choosing between the two unless they want smaller more arbitrary things like bigger servers and whatnot.
Also, No there is no End on the Xbox version, so no portal. There also isn't any brewing. That stuff will be coming later though.
I have read in many places and heard on the X-Box version web stream where they do plan to bring the X-Box version up to par with the PC version as best as they can within the limitations that Microsoft imposes. I suspect these additions will include the End, Potions, Enchanting, etc. Like with the PC version development, it will take time for the X-Box version to receive the updates, maybe even longer due to the red tape they have to cut through to get an update pushed out.
The Minecraft Wiki is likely to be your best source of information raguarding anything in the game. Just be pay attention to what game features are offered with which game version. X-Box is only up to 1.6.6, soon to be 1.7.3. The PC version is way ahead of X-Box right now, so there is a lot of extra information in the Wiki that will not apply to us X-Box users.
Yes, there are a lot of differences, like all the other stuff the people have said, and the fact that there is also no mods, no creative mode, and no Texture Packs, and the fact that you HAVE to use the 8 default skins it gives you. And there is a lot of bugs still.
Some of these will change though. Creative mode is only 2 updates away. Also, 4J has said they are doing DLC skins around the time 1.7.3 comes out. Plus they want to make it to where you'll be baleto pick from the 8 skins when you lpay instead of being forced one by your player position in a game.
Mods and texture packs shouldn't really count because they aren't an actual part of the game. They are aditions made to it by the community. So you aren't being ripped off by 4J or Microsoft. It's the limitations of a console that are doing it.
No, they couldn't be free. There is a cost associated with added content on XBLA games. I think that, in my research into dungeon defenders, that it costs them somewhere between 10,000 and 40,000 USD to do those. Which is why that game had TONS of new content on the PC and NONE for the xbox. Now 4J has struck a unique deal with MS in that they are allowed a much larger amount of free updates to bring it up to speed with PC vanilla minecraft. But any kind of new game modes added to include the better mod content the PC has would certainly have to be paid for to offset that loss.
This is probably gonna be the reason you never see such a thing added. From a technical standpoint, adding hack slash mine as a new game mode would be very doable and welcome. But the overhead would suck and they'd have to get all kinds of permissions and contracts and blah blah blah. In short, a useless waste of resources while they are still trying to get it up to vanilla PC for free.
Kinda does make you wonder why the xbox game wasnt developed into the pc version latest release before releasing it II know they released the PC version with its beta model and earlier but didt they really need to follow suit with the xbox.. It raised the expectations from the xbox community but doesnt yet deliver the game we all see out there for the pc. Yes I know it will get there. Given proir knoweldge of what to expect in the current pc version I do wonder how many players would have just waited until it was on par with the pc version. Will the xbox edition always lag behind the developements in the PC game? How many people bought the game and thought you were getting what the PC has.

Because that was the version the game was in when they started working on it. No one should have expected it to be on par with the pc version when it was released. They made it clear it wouldn't be.

I doubt they ever will.
Yes, I can see how that happened with the PC version.... oh, wait....
As long as it still sells I'm sure they'll still update it.
I heard Notch wont charge for Minecraft XBLA, just like he wont charge for PC
