Okay I can see minecraft launcher won't work on windows 10, need new coding or something I'm not much of a tech person, but if i wanted to play PE I'd pick up my phone or tablet and play. When I pick up my laptop or sit at my desktop I want to play minecraft like the real thing. Please tell me that this is just for now and regular minecraft will be playable on windows 10 soon. I don't want to have to go out and buy a new windows 7 or 8 computer just to play minecraft, other then this I kinda do like windows 10. Please Mojang allow me to be happy and play normal minecraft.
I think you've answered your own question if you want to play 'regular minecraft' and not the PE edition on Windows 10. Win8.1 is still a good OS, so that's what I'd pick if I were you. I'm still fairly new to the game and so far I am willing to only play on XBOX1, Phone/Win10. I can only deal w/ 2 different platform or my head will spin
1- I doubt anybody sells a Windows 7 or 8 computer anymore. You'd probably have to special order it (but there's no need to do that).
2- Windows 10 is an OS. There's two versions of MC that run on Windows 10 computers. One is the original, java version, the other is Win10 (the "Windows 10 Beta Edition") that's like PE. Two different games... and it's easy to confuse Windows 10 OS with the Win10 version of MC.
3- Mojang's Grand Plan is to (eventually) have Win10 "catch up" to the java version ("or nearly so". See the News page).
SO, you can play the "normal Minecraft" on your Windows 10 computer.
For starters, the performance of the Windows 10 edition is far better than the Java version. The reason being is that the Windows 10 version is using DX12 where as the Java version is using OpenGL for rendering. Without getting too technical, DX12 performs better because it is much more optimize specifically for the Windows platform where as OpenGL was meant to be used across any device.
On my Intel NUC that has an Intel i5 processor with no dedicated graphic card, the performance difference is very noticeable. The Windows 10 edition of Minecraft gets 60+ FPS with no significant framerate drop while the java version can barely maintain 45 FPS (usually it drops lower when I enter thick forrests). Personally, I don't care about mods so much, having a smooth experience is more important to me. Worlds load in a blink of an eye, this would usually take a minute or so on the Java version.
Another reason is that people playing the Windows 10 edition can play with other people over the internet without needing to make a private server. The great thing about the Windows 10 version is that it is connected to your Xbox Live account. If your friend is online, you can have them join you in a world without the need of setting up a server. This is extremely useful as setting up a server can be difficult. You can also play with friends locally if they're also playing the windows 10 version or pocket edition. The java version only lets you play with friends locally, playing over the internet requires a server.
Last, this might not seem like a big deal to most people, but for me I think it's great. The Windows 10 edition of Minecraft has 3 input methods: touch, keyboard + mouse, and game controller. I think the Windows 10 edition really shines when you're on the go or you want to sit back. If you're on a long road trip or just taking a subway, you can play the Windows 10 version similar to how pocket edition is. In these situation, you can't really pull out a mouse or a keyboard to play Minecraft. If you want to play Minecraft on the big screen, just plug in a controller and it works. The java version of Minecraft doesn't support controllers natively, making it hard to play on a couch.
"Development on this version of the game (Win10/PE) has been coming along pretty quickly, and it will only be a matter of time before it is on par - if not nearly so - with the desktop Java version." ~ from Mojang on the MC forum's News page.
There's this false assumption out there that Win10/PE will always be "PE-like", that it will never be as good as the java version, and that the java version will always be "better" than the any other version. But in the last few months, Win10/PE has come a long way.... and they're not done by a long shot!
So what is the point of Win10? To get MC away from java and move it to a modern programming language that allows more speed, less limitations, and to allow the programmers to take MC to places they couldn't go before. A year from now there won't be that gap between the java version and Win10/PE, and 2 years from now the java version will be a distant memory. Get out of that mindset that Win10/PE will always be "inferior" to the java version. That's only temporary.
Oh, and BTW, "At this rate, console versions of Minecraft could very well end up on par with the original desktop version before year's end!" ~ per Mojang, also from the News page.
So scoff if you want, but as Cherry_Sparkles said in another thread- "What's the point of the java version?" There will be no "java version dominance" shortly, and to those who continue to hook your wagon to the "original" version... it's being pulled by a dying horse. Like it or not, Win10 (and, yes, PE) is the future of MC. But don't worry, all the versions of MC will be like the java version, so you won't lose much, if anything... and you might gain a lot more.
The questions everyone should be asking is: Once Win10 (and PE, and the consoles) "catch up" to the java version, what's gonna happen to the poor java version? If the java version is to be kept going (for the Mac, etc. people), will it be able to keep up with Win10/PE/Consoles?
I have to admit, this thread and other similar topic threads is very interesting to read. It's been a while since I've really cared this much about gaming, when most of the time I just say 'its just a game' Nevertheless, keep an open mind and speak/type freely as your opinion do matter, that's what makes America great!
This is just a theory, but I think Mojang/Microsoft would rather have the universal edition of Minecraft be the one you're playing. Just think about it, they're offering it for free to everyone who bought the java version of Minecraft. Also, the beta version of the Windows 10 edition can be bought at a reduced price, which is $9.99. The Windows 10 version cost more than the pocket edition at the reduced price, which means the non-beta version will most likely cost about the same as the java version. While the Windows 10 version does share the same base as the pocket edition, there are a few differences (mainly in the GUI).
This is all speculation of course. I like the Windows 10 version so far for what it is and I hope development will go quickly as they said.
Launcher doesnt work for windows 10 that it way they made MCW10E so yea its kinda hard
That's not true at all. First, the launcher does work for Windows 10, I've tried it and it runs fine for me. Second, they didn't create the Windows 10 version of Minecraft because the java version doesn't work on Windows 10.
I get on both Java and win10 version of minecraft. I really have to agree with Geneo, The win10 version will catch up to the java version in no time, and with controller support that's the one i'll use anyway. Nothing about the java version shouts "superior" to me, it's just been around longer.
In short WIN10 MC is not exactly like PE its built entirely from the ground up (with PE capabilities) the only difference from the java version is it have less stuff its in beta and is made in C++

How do i get the java version on windows 10 then?
Go to Minecraft.net, Log into your Account and download the Launcher? ...
It's not really hard.
Why "Pocket Edition" on a desktop/laptop/etc?

Confusing.
What they're saying is the java version (and it's "launcher") does work in Windows 10... or any OS that runs Java.
The Win10 Beta version doesn't need, or even have, a "launcher" (it's like a normal program), but it only works in Windows 10.
