PROJECT HALTED
Due to so many complications(losing the source to v0.5 and my progress for example), and a severe lack of motivation, I've cancelled this project. It isn't worth keeping up on to me, I have school, primarily my physics class, which have kept me busy. And I have a science project that involves programming I have to do. Sorry I let you guys down!
Also, you may PM me if you are an Android developer(please include some proof!) and I'll consider giving you the source if you want to carry on with this project.
Also, if you think I should be motivated by having a program to use, I've never been developer this for myself, I like the default texture pack, I've never been able to use a different one.
I say halted because sometime in the future I may pick up on this and move along again. But not anytime soon. UPDATE:
The other day I lost the source to my new version of this app, though I hadn't made much progress on it, it still hurt.
Today I got an email saying my Paypal was limited. The only things I used my paypal for was to accept donations, and I only got two. Paypal is a screwup and now I'll just give up the hope of getting a Market account to have this put on the official market. Might as well just give up on this project.
Note:
I dropped the version of this app for the Minecraft PE demo as it only received 24 downloads in the past month(versus 331 on the full version).
Updated to v0.1.3 of Minecraft PE and added the Lushcraft texture pack.
IMPORTANT:
I plan on setting this up in such a way where it does not require root but it has modified, signed APKs that it downloads. I would like to know any legal issues I could face, and ways to avoid them. (like markets with cracked apps that don't get in trouble because they only link to the downloads, not host them)
My Story
I recently started coding in Java in order to create Android applications. Someone else inspired me to create this application. While this was my idea, he gave me the inspiration to pull through.
What?
This application was created to make the process of changing you texturepacks in Minecraft: PE, easier. Instead of needing access to a computer, you just have to have root access on your phone and of course the ability to click a button.
Why?
To make the whole process easier.
Cool, how do I get it?
Download links near the bottom of this post.
IF THIS DOES NOT WORK, READ THIS BEFORE COMPLAINING!:
Some things that could cause problems while using this app:
Make sure Minecraft PE is installed onto the internal memory, it will not work on external memory!
Make sure Minecraft PE is the Market version, if you changed the texture pack and signed the apk for use on your phone while it wasn't rooted, uninstalled Minecraft PE and install it from the market.
If you are updating from a previous version of this app, uninstall this before updating, or force close this application after you install the newer version.
If the hashcheck fails and you don't have access to a search key, reinstall Minecraft PE from the Market and then try. If it still doesn't work, please grab the .apk from "/data/app/", it should be named "com.mojang.minecraftpe.apk" with a number on the end, upload it, and forward it to me to analyze.
If you have a cracked version of Minecraft PE installed, this WILL NOT WORK, this will just replace it with a non-cracked version essentially and you'll have to reinstall the crack. And if you have a cracked version of Minecraft PE, SHAME ON YOU.
This is a beta version of this app and I am not responsible for any damage done to your phone!
If it says "apk not original" that means the hashcheck failed, if that happens then just press SEARCH then MENU, it'll bypass the hashcheck. This also means that if you are running a cracked version, it won't work anymore(just a fair warning).
Please post if this works on your phone! If this doesn't, please try to get the error through logcat if you have the ability and give it to me.

I want you to add my texture pack to the mix, how do I go about doing this?
Just reply on this thread with your texture pack. It has to be YOURS, completely made by YOU for Minecraft PE. I would also like you to get a couple of other users to vouch wanting your texture pack on this.

For aesthetic purposes, their donations were lost when paypal limited my account.
Like this application, consider supporting further development by donating!
Unfortunately Paypal limited my account and I lost my donation money, and most of my motivation.
All initial donations will go toward a Google Market account so this can be put up on the market($0.00/$25).

I never really got into the whole "twitter" thing, but I'm going to try.
+1 for you good sir. I'll be keeping an eye on this - Godspeed!
Yes, godspeed.
I seem to have ran across a problem. On the computer we open the .apk, change the files, and then put it on the phone. From the phone I have to unarchive the apk and then recarchive it. I need to find a way to bypass that or make it work(rearchiving it seems to use a different compression type, causing the app to break).
If you have ASTRO on your android device, go into the apk that way, you can email yourself any textures you have made, and you can just Replace the images. I did it with my background, changed my character looks, and changed my terrain.png in just a few minutes.

You try to make yourself sound bright, but in reality - I'll stop there.
Either way, an application to do it in one click is a whole lot easier then about 20. There is the chilkat library, but that is only a 30 day trial then I have to pay for the use of it(like, $290). No way. I'll just wait for the email back.

Lol. Yea. Thought about that.
And I've already ran into a few problems. I got it modded successfully...however....I get the "Application not installed" error. I asked some of the guys at the XDA-DEV forums, and it happens sometimes when editing ANYTHING in an APK file.

Edit: I had to repack it and use SignAPK.
You don't mod it and try to reinstall it, you have to move it to the /data/apps folder. >_<
But Did I understand the problem right?
So your problem is, that you can't move the files back into the apk but you have to un- and then rezip the files?
Is there no “add to archive“ command for folders or something?i really don't know anything about java though, so...
Anyway, great work so far :smile.gif: let's see what mojang says :smile.gif:
Mojang hasn't responded yet.
There is no append feature, and on a computer when I rezip an APK it doesn't work anymore(it works if I just append). All I can do is wait for a reply from Mojang.
why do you need permission from mojang? isnt this just technically a mod for the pocket edition? i didnt require their permission for my faithplate mod
He wants permission to include the full .APK, but I doubt he'll get it, as that could lead to piracy, outdated versions, and general hassles.
Caleb, another angle: Have you investigated patching systems such as .ips? Coming from the rom-hacking scene, I think that if there was a similar thing for android, it would be a good choice for things like installing specific texture packs.

I assume you're giving my permission to use your texture pack in my initial build?
Also, the graphics took forever to make.
Especially my edit of the logo.
Also, the button being a grayed a bit is just my example of a pressed button. It normally looks like the default button.
Yes, just trying to get my texture pack out there for others to enjoy 8) You did an excellent job on the logo.
Thanks!
Grrr, I can't figure this out. I'm leaning toward have the modified APK in the app but that would be illegal. >_<
Emailed them, worded it differently. I'll wait and see.

I don't know how to go about that, though it would help as C++ is the language I originally learned. I didn't learn many libraries though.
