So recently 0.6.1 came out and there are now the essentials to creating the nether in pocket editions: lava and netherack. But we still have the nether reactor!!!
I've seen terrain generator mods and they are all pretty good and I believe with a little effort, the mine craft community could code nether terrain with all of the proper blocks, lava lakes, and maybe something very challenging: a small nether fortress with a rare spawn chance.
We also need the portal. Similarly to PC, we should use the same structure although I think it should be made with nether brick, not obsidian. That way the reactor will still have a big purpose. Of course, the player will still need flint and steel to activate the portal.
I believe that this mod will be possible although it is a very big challenge. This mod would be a major improvement on pocket edition, especially if we can make sure that it won't lag too much or crash. So spread the word to people like 500 Internal Server Error and Pixeldrum and get modding!

I would just be happy if we had portals!!! That would be my ultimate dream... Say you fall out of a world (like beneath the bedrock) What if you fell into the world you previously played???? If that could happen my life would be so much better xD it would be amazing for adventure maps too!!!!!! But the flint and steel thing probably wont work :/
I don't want to live on this Planet Anymore.
As a modder myself this is impossible. Unless you create a world generator that maybe has a pretty generated and used nether reactor as the fortress.
Nope. Most mods nowadays are actual mods, not unlocks.
That makes me feel sad, only you iOS users can make code-based mods, and the rest are using third party apps that I am too lazy to learn how to or code it.
or we could have two worlds open at the same time... and when you fall out of the world you enter the next
I was thinking something like this... You know how there is that like 500,000 or so invisible blocks ( turning the invisible blocks/bedrock is possible) Well somewhere the could be like a 64*64 small area of land, enclosed with a nether reactor there already, when you activate yours, you teleport there and vice versa. It could be like pretty much the exact same nether dome/ spire/tower but in an enclosed area far away.

yeah but i dont really care about the nether I would be just as happy if it was another world Oh my gosh... pocket edition exclusive feature.... you put the portal next to the invisible bedrock on the side... and when you activate it the invisible bedrock falls (or dissapears but not instantly) revealing the other world/nether... To hard for us to mod, unless it was tually coded into the game
Well replacing dirt blocks to netherack and water to lava is already a simple step that serves as the base to the Nether Project as I would like to call it. I wish I could help with coding but I'm not taking coding classes until the summer. All I know is some JavaScript, HTML, and a little bit of self-taught C++ but only basic commands. The most complex program I created was a simple math game with randomly generated equations.
I actually think that the portal will be the hardest part of the project. After that is the PC-like generation of the Nether. And possibly Zombie Pigman natural spawning.
Drether = block ID change
Snow Grenades = make the snowball onHit jump to the TNT explode method
Thank you.
We don't have actual mods. We have unlocks. Unlocks that permit certain things that are implemented in game that are otherwise impossible for it to happen without "unlocking" the feature to do so. A mod to me is like a new mob, not a retexture, or making pigs act like creepers and explode, or making snowballs act like tnt when they make contact with ground, etc.

The only mods we have so far are all unlocks, things implemented in game that cannot be used without modding the game(I.E. Smooth Lighting)

And I agree with Pixeldrum. MCPE mods are beginning to change. Some examples are the Drether and Snowball grenades mods.

Possible as an unlock, I think.
Yeah, I used that as an example of something that's not a mod. *I was continuing off of "not a rexture, or..."*
it ain't coded it ain't possible
