Are you the kind of guy that wants to make an adventure map, but doesn't have the knowledge to make Redstone alternative doors? Or are you sick of all the space a Redstone alternative takes up? How about having to make those horrid sign garbage cans because the player is forced to pick up leftover signs, that stinks doesn't it?
I have found a clean, fast, and easy way to make "locked doors", or areas you cannot pass without the aid of certain items, with no Redstone alternatives at all. Let me show you what I did.
Warning: this is a glitch and may not be permanent. The devs could fix it at any time, but while it still works let's put it to good use.
There are two different ways you could do this. Place a dirt block down, then a tall grass and a block ontop of it. This will act as your doorway. The players objective would be to find a piece of bone meal, which will act as a key to the locked door. Once the player finds the bonemeal, they will use it on the grass block, which in turn will grow into a double tall grass block. That will obliterate the block above into space/time, never to be seen again. The doorway will now be clear enough for the player to walk through. (Pictures Below)
The second way to do this door alternative would be to put a double tall fern/grass in the chest and instead of putting down a grass then a block on top, you leave the bottom space blank, where you will put the double tall fern/grass and the same effect will apply.
I hope this helps out some aspiring mapmakers, and that it will be used often. In fact,if you use this along side the other Redstone alternatives, you can open up a lot of opportunities for secret areas, a shop system, etc. The possibilities are (not) endless! I can post a map to sort of demo the concept if you guys would prefer that, although its simple enough I think the pictures will do.
I hope this helped some people out, now you guys all have a great day.
P.S. it has been tested in both survival and creative, it works in both.
Update: little map I made to demonstrate and show how it can be used.

No downloads here, just a tutorial. I can post a little something if people want it though.
Alright, a short map has been made and posted.
Really? I never knew that its really useful.
