So I'm making an adventure map on 0.9.0 and I was just wondering how do I go about getting things into chests on creative mode? I'm on iOS and I'm using a superflat world. For example say I want to have "secret chests" that each have a diamond, or have like hidden armor for the player if he manages to find it, how would I put one of those things into a chest?
Do I have to convert it to survival and do it? Because I'm afraid that once I convert to survival (using the iExplorer "copy the level.dat from a new survival world into your creative world" method) it'll put me back at spawn which means I can't put the stuff where I want it. Plus I'd like to be able to put the secret chests as I build the map, not after the fact, so if I have to keep switching between creative and survival every time I want to put something into a chest...well I may as well just not bother with secret chests.
I'm also not willing to jailbreak, so I can't use a mod.
Any suggestions? If it's not possible without jailbreaking or switching back and forth just tell me.
EDIT: I'm also worried because I have minecart sections and if the player accidentally pushes the minecart instead of getting into it they would have to walk the whole way lol so I was hoping to have a chest near the start of the track with extra carts.
You sure? That's how all the huge mapmakers do it? By shutting it off, connecting to the computer, switching game modes, turning it back on, putting the stuff in the chest, shutting it off again, switching game modes back, and turning it back on? For every chest in the map? I just feel like there's gotta be an easier way.
On android I hit pocketinv editor, my world, either edit tile entities (direct editing) or edit world to change gamemode:) (block launcher is for mods in game)
I'm on iOS. It's just surprising because there are so many maps out there with things in chests, so are they all either Android or jailbroken iOS? I can't imagine anyone would bother flipping between creative and survival over and over for every chest they place if the only way to do it were the iExplorer "copy the level.dat from a new survival world into your creative world" method since that takes a while plus you'd have to craft the items if they're not something you can just place like pickaxes, or something you can't mine without a certain kind of pickaxe like a diamond. (And does switching to survival that way reset your position back to spawn?)
Level.dat holds your coords too. You will go to the area you are in the world you copied from. Maybe you can do it last also here is a inv edit program for iOS no-jailbreak. http://mcpeinventoryeditor.coffeecup.com
Okay, I think I have an idea of how I will do this.
First I will go through my adventure map and make paths around all the sign-related stuff so I don't have to break it all to go through the world.
Next I will change my world to survival by copying the level.dat from a fresh survival world. I assume if I didn't move from spawn in the survival world, this would put me at my adventure map's spawn point, right?
Anyway, after that, I will use the inventory editor to give myself all the items I want to put into chests (diamonds, gold, extra minecarts, etc.). Then I will go through my world from the start on survival, using the shortcuts I made for myself, and put the stuff in the chests. Then I will copy the old level.dat back into my world to make it creative again, so I can remove the shortcuts, then copy the fresh level.dat from the survival world again once I am ready to finish my adventure map.
Yes, but with 2 problems. But I just generated 3 worlds and the spawns were about 20 apart though. Also if/ when new terrain is generated it will be the new seed. It won't be horrible unless you made it on flat.
Hmm, well I am doing it on flat ground. Is there maybe a guide somewhere for me to just manually edit certain values in the adventure map's level.dat (with a text editor) to change it to survival rather than copying level.dat from a fresh survival world? I saw a video on this once but the guy only changed one value and it made it really weird, like a survival/creative hybrid where he had hearts but he couldn't be hurt and he could fly and stuff.
I have an app that hex edits for me. I can get you level.DAT for survival flatland. I need the name because its stored in there too. (There cannot be 2 folders with the same name so they have the correct name in level.DAT.
If your on iOS there is this app calledPlugPE but it costs money. It is a launcher with commands (and the /give commands) switch to survival then give yourself the items with the commands

Do you think that sounds like it will work?

Ok, cool. The name is:
Ryland's Castle
If this works then I'll put you in the credits for my map
Thanks again!!
Also pocket inv editor only works for android!!! 0: I am also creating a mysterious island adventure map.
In new 0.11.1 you can change your game mode easily in the game but i cant open chest within creative could you help me Craftyawsome.
That photo is my first world ever i made when i was 7 lol!
In the new update you are able to change the gamemode like this:
Quit to title > Play > Press that pen at the right side of your world > Choose your gamemode and play.
Hope it helped.
Edit: In MCPE there are not any functions to open creative chests.
