I don't understand the problem here, couldn't you just plug in a mouse or connect a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard and just play minecraft in browser? You don't have to download it, the tablet should recognize that you are using the internet browser not minecraft.

What are you talking about? Windows 8 on tablets runs the same thing as desktops. Just Windows 8 Rt doesn't let you download third party programs because Windows RT tablets use arm processors instead of Intel or amd processors. And since arm is a mobile processors it can't handle third party applications very well at all. This is because applications are not optimized for arm, right?

Sorry man. you seem to be getting the wrong idea here...
When you run minecraft in-browser, its doing the same thing as minecraft on the desktop is doing. It downloads the SAME FILES, n THE SAME PLACES and runs them in THE SAME WAY as regular minecraft. The only diffrence is that it is in a browser really.
Secondly, windows 8 tablets DON'T EVEN SUPPORT JAVA! Java is needed to run minecraft, and without it, minecraft cannot exist. It is literally impossible to run regular minecraft on a windows 8 tablet. Or any tablet for that matter.
Lets say the tablet DID have java, and application support...
The tablrt still couldnt run the application because it simply lacks the power to. Windows 8 tablets have very low powered processors (yes they are ARM processors) and are built for mobile processing, not desktop processing. The Tablet wouldn't handle the application well, if at all.

And lastly, windows RT is ENTIRELY DIFFERENT than windows 8. RT has support for some apps, not all of them. It doesnt run desktop applications, and is Extremely lightweight. (meaning it isnt a resource hog)
Windows 8 (desktop version) Can run all apps on the store, ALL OF THEM. because the computers with windows 8 installed have unlimited potential (upgrades, etc,) And is can run ANY DESTOP APPLICATION that would run on windows 7 or any other version of windows.

The bottom line: Windows RT tablets will NEVER (and i mean never) run minecraft. EVER.
    its just impossible.
Windows 8 pro (on desktop) WILL run minecraft without issues.

And as mentioned earlier: "Windows 8 pro will be on the surface soon" And the answer is yes, but it STILL WONT RUN desktop applications or support java, because of hardware limitations.

And thats the truth, i have a surface of my own, and i know alot about it, I also have a desktop running windows 8. That is all.

Why not just play Minecraft PC on a PC?

well thought, Minecraft Pc Should STAY on the PC and MCPE should stay on Android and iOS is my opinion

lol, derp on my part about in browser, but Windows 8 RT is the same thing as Windows 8 desktop except you can't run third party apps, like iTunes and Chrome. What annoyed me is the paragraph that I put in bold, you basically repeated what i said, Arm processors aren't strong enough and wouldn't really handle the applications. Also you semed to stretch things out for no reason, Your post could have said:

Sorry man. you seem to have the wrong idea here...
In browser, you would still have the download the files, and windows tablets don't support Java. Arm proccessors just aren't strong enough to support minecraft or other applications. So it is not possible for W8 tablets to run Minecraft if it could. I have a W8 tablet and i did research so i would know.

One paragraph instead of 4(counting the sentences at the end as one paragraph. If I had to guess, you are in a bad mood and trying to explain everything to me as if I'm stupid. Plus the random all cap words.

    Actually no.
Windows 8 pro for the surface and other tablets will still not be able to run traditional desktop applications.
It isnt the full windows 8 pro like on a desktop. Its more like windows 8 on a desktop, but not quite. It will run SOME apps like a desktop, but only those available on the microsoft store. And we already know, minecraft will never hit the store :(
hopefully pocket edition will become available!

Actually there is 2 kind of surface. Surface RT which can only run app from the store and Surface PRO which is basically going to launch next next year which run on full windows 8 not RT

Guys, Most windows 8 tablets (take the microsoft surface for example) CAN take a keyboard AND mouse input.
That means that you can still use a wireless keyboard (most come with them) And trackpad or mouse.

So, just download and instal minecraft like you would regularly on a PC, and use the keyboard!
All windows 8 tablets can take a keyboard, although not all come with one.

There's only 1 windows 8 tablet that can do that for a start. It wouldn't work either, as I doubt the Surface nor the Surface pro has 1gb of RAM. And finally, the Surface devices can't take a mouse.

I'm sorry, I had to log in and reply to this thread because you are so COMPLETELY wrong on this topic. Not one thing you have said about Windows 8 has been correct and you are spreading a lot of false misinformation. So let's keep this simple.

    1) Windows 8 Tablet is a poor way to distinguish this. There are two main types of Windows 8 Tablets, full Windows 8 and Windows RT. From now on distinguish them as such.

    2) *ANY* device that is running Windows 8 will run Minecraft, end of discussion. Performance will vary based upon the specs of the system just like any other device. (Example Tablets that run Minecraft: ATIV 700t, Acer W700, Surface Pro)

    3) *ANY* device that is running Windows RT will *not* run Minecraft in its current form. Mojang may release a version that will but that looks unlikely. (Example Tablets: Surface RT, VIVO Tab, Acer W500)

The Microsoft Surface Pro tablet will run Minecraft, it runs full Windows 8 operating system. It has an Intel Core i5 processor and 4GB RAM just like most laptops you see.

So please, don't declare a topic dead because you beat it to death by spouting a pile of incorrect bull.

    False.
There is not a single tablet on the market that can run minecraft Desktop edition.
There is no tablet that has windows 8 pro on it yet. So you cant run minecraft!
Windows 8 RT will not run minecraft - its not designed to.
I haven't had a chance to try out a windows 8 pro tablet yet (because you cant get them) so im not sure weather it would run or not.
Most likely, windows 8 pro will not be able to run minecraft for these reasons:
-battery: the battery will drain CRAZY FAST. like in less than an hour.

-graphics: Im aware that is a core i5, but its integrated graphics...which suck.

-controls: minecraft is coded to work with mouse and keyboard. touch gestures will be unrecognized by the game. Im not sure if the touch cover works...

Also, mojang will NEVER...and i mean NEVER... release a version for windows 8.
Notch refused to do so, because he wants minecraft to be open sourced forever.

Why are you calling bull on me for stating the truth? next time you do, bring some actual facts with you.
The surface pro is the only tablet that has a small chance of maybe possibly running minecraft on it. AND ITS NOT EVEN OUT.

Windows 8 RT will never run minecraft
Windows 8 pro (tablets) will likely never run minecraft
In the off chance it can, it will be a horrible experience for the user. (odd control, battery life sucks, crashing)

It is true. Windows 8 RT is very watered down and will not run Desktop applications
  • #37
That's not entirely true. This post may be a little old but maybe it will help. Yes you can't just play minecraft in a web browser but arm processor definitely support Java. I am a computer programmer and I program Java based apps. Even your microwave could run Java. Java is just a language and supports Linux windows and osx. Android phones and tablets run arm processors "most of them" android is Linux based. Android currently has a touch optimized version of minecraft in their app store. But windows 8 Rt is a hybrid based system that I have yet to develop on, but it is not that far fetched that minecraft will be on surface tablets. Some surface Rt tablets have more processing power than others but they are completely capable and world perform fine for a mobile pocket version like the one for android. And I have a surface pro it does have windows 8pro and an i5 processor and 4gb of ram it plays perfectly fine I get 60+ frames but it requires a keyboard and mouse so I don't really play it I have a less portable gaming laptop for that purpose. But YES SURFACE RT CAN RUN Minecraft. It did take mojang years to develop one for android but in less than a year they ported it from android to an iPhone and iPad so no major redesign is needed from my pov I believe there will be minecraft on surface rt once windows 8.1 is officially released it includes a different market and a few major changes I think that's why developers are holding off to develop apps for the windows store and if the windows phone has the official Facebook app look how long its taking for it to come to the windows store for windows 8.

Just for fun, I loaded Minecraft (PC version) onto my Asus T100 (Full Windows 8.1 w/ Intel quad core @ 1.3 Ghz, 2G mem) to see if it would run. After a mandatory download of Java, Minecraft opened up and I was able to create a world in it to explore. I tried it first with 1.4.6, which ran just fine, so I started working my way up through the versions to 1.7.2. All ran fine... that is until I started exploring more than about 20 chunks in 1.7.2. All of a sudden my FPS started taking a nose dive, even though memory showed only using 1/3 of available. I had been running in fullscreen, so I reduced to default, which made no difference. I tried tweaking some video settings, which helped a bit, but the FPS still were not going above 30 at this point. I'm not sure what is causing the slowdown, perhaps more objects that I've created, the number of total chunks updated (was set originally at 10, dropped it to 6), mob spawn issues or what, but the little tablet / netbook, just didn't have the umph to continue to deliver a playable game at that point. Still, I was impressed that it was able to run it at all. For such a low-priced Windows tablet, it does a great job.

P.S. I haven't tried running a lower version on a new world to see if that might make a difference. 1.7.2 has a lot of additional textures and such to load.

Whatever its Mojang's loss if they don't port mcpe! they could get many more customers and they would have happier fans...and it can't possibly be that hard, yeah it'll take a while but so!

Mojang won't port MCPE to the RT, it's just to small of a percentage of people using it; it wouldn't be viable. Windows 8.1 did release, but didn't really change anything for RT. Minecraft won't get on RT!

    The thing is, a port of PE for PC? That's actually so stupid, I can't believe how stupid that can be. Creating a mobile version based on a PC version, than porting the mobile version onto PC. ;-;
