I was recently looking around the interwebs and found an article on apps that people would like for the PS Vita. This included youtube, hulu, a few others, and... PS Suite. As we all know PS Suite is where you would go to download games and apps for you xperia play, and of course what is on PS Suite that we all want on our Vita's as well is Minecraft. This is from a slightly outdated article from wikipedia:
PlayStation Suite is an upcoming software framework that will be used to provide downloadable PlayStation content for devices that meet the forthcoming PlayStation Certified requirements. Currently, this includes devices that both run Android 2.3 and meet specific unannounced hardware requirements, and Sony's PlayStation Vita. The framework will be cross-platform and cross-device, which Sony refers to as "hardware-neutral". (It is based on the Mono platform.) It is currently set to be released around April of 2012. It is expected to be released along side the upcoming Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the 2011 Xperia portfolio.
What this means is we will soon likely have access to the PS Suite via our PS Vita's, where Minecraft PE is waiting for us to download. There may be a slight chance of Suite NOT coming to Vita but it's very unlikely, so as far as I can tell, PS Suite and Minecraft ARE coming to the Vita.
But MCPE is not a playstation suite game?!?! It been ported to iOS and andriod (using googles android Api) not PS suite, they would still have to port it and if PS suite games need to be written in mono (which is an open source version of .net) I'm not sure this is likely MCPE is mostly written using c++ with hooks into / android Api and other bits of platform specific ui. Saying that.. If sales of ps vita improve and there xbox deal doesnt stop them releasing on newer sony hardware and it's relatively easy to produce a game that can use c++ framework that works with vita Api then I think it will happen! They do seem to have a good relationship with Sony, at least on the mobile side..
I have to agree, except I believe the main setback is that the MC PE game engine is written in C++ so that it be compiled to run on both Android and iOS from the same source. If Sony decides to include a compiler to build C++ code with mono (and support OpenGLES 2.0) then it would be a fairly simple port. I believe the Vita wouldn't be held back by the Microsoft exclusive deal because the Vita is a mobile platform and not a home console, but of course i could be wrong.
Also, Xperia Play doesn't have PS Suite yet, it uses Android Market to download MC PE. PS Suite, should be released along side Android 4.0 on Xperia devices, or at least, thats what the wiki says
PS Suite included things like the PS Store where PS1 games are available for the Xperia Play. I don't think that the vita will really get any games on the Android platform. Unless ported.
