I can't seem to tell if this includes the "lighting engine overhaul." I know that they added the smooth lighting 'Maximum' option, but is this the final implementation? Thanks to anyone who can illuminate this for me
You mean optimizations FPS-wise? Both Smooth Lighting versions are laggy for me, perhaps more now than ever, but it could be because I'm used to having it off now.
Not yet. They've made some optimisations to the existing code, but the engine hasn't been changed yet. Or at least not as far as I can tell or have heard about. Nathan did fix it once, but it made the nether unplayable so he put it aside until he can come up with a proper solution.
Always makes me wonder how with coding, updating one thing can make fifty other things not get along. My friends tell me that thats the annoying thing about coding.
Awesome! with the effects and scoreboard, you can make an epic pvp arena, where no one has armor, and every punch does a 1 hit kill, while keeping track of everyone's scores/kills/deaths!!!!
Although I can't wait to Get my hands in this new update I can't help thinking that minecraft is getting a bit too complicated?
There's nothing saying you have to master the mechanics of comparators and all that jazz. This update has features for redstoney people, and other updates will surely differ.

I believe there was a 12w30e (or just 30d) right before 1.3. They tend to do that a lot leading up to the update.
