(my house is 230, 300) so it's a good walk to get back to my death spot.
I used my stop watch and it took me 11 mins to get to death spot. Now the timer starts ONLY when the section where your death spot is located loads into the game. So that 5 mins can take a while. Depends on where u restart at and what the game has loaded. Like i said below 3 hours layer my stuff was still there rather the donkey made my stuff stay, or because that section had not loaded yet all my stuff was still there.
5 mins is the timer but its 5 mins from the load point. Not from restart (unless ur within that area)...
I was playing 2k blocks away from home swimming with my donkey and boom died... now I hear 5 mins this n that.. but there has been many times before this i found my items well past 5 mins.
But last night is different. I died gave up after over 2 hours searching and just kept playing. This morning I go back towards my house and boom. Found all my items and donkey chilling on an island waiting for me to return. Everything was there.. it had been a week game time and almost 3 hours real time before I got back to death spot.
I have no cheats no mods, playing on switch.
Please tell me why this happened and where is this 5 min deshawn thing come from.
Edited: so I guess what I'm saying is dont give up looking for your death spot. Tour items have a chance of being there longer than 5 mins. Trust me. If u do find your death spot and your stuff is gone. I'm sorry I know how it feels to loose all diamond tools and armor. But much kudos for bot cheating and playing survival like it should be played... much luck to you all..
P.s. I'll be testing the time theory. By doing different things to see just how long items really do stay around.
I believe that on switch, somewhere between 4 and 8 chunks are loaded at any give time, depending on your settings. That's only 64 blocks away from you in a straight line at its minimum, and around 128 at max. If you were 2000 blocks away, your items were in an unloaded chunk for the vast majority of the time you were traveling. The five minute timer is a thing, and it starts when your items are in a loaded chunk. With needing to be so near to your death point for your items to load, I can easily see your things still being there three hours later.
So, in essence, you're right! If you're attached to your items, it's definitely worthwhile trying to find your death point again. As long as you know where it is and don't spend 5 minutes within the loaded chunk space, it's very possible to find your things well after you died.
Edited 2nd time;
Heres the REAL scoop.. I died at -1566, 1700...

The best way to avoid an unwanted conversation, is not to respond at all.

It sounds like your items were in unloaded chunks for most of the time, so the timer wasn't ticking down.
Check out my mod! You can find it on CurseForge here:
