Found a cave and mined a bunch of diamonds and stuff
Fell in lava and lost all my stuff

Believe it or not, loads of players love the risk of losing their most valuable possessions upon death. Many others consider it a reason to rage quit.
If you have enabled cheats when you created your world, you can change the default behavior of the game when you die.
Typing the letter "T" opens the console so you can enter commands.
Then enter the following command to keep your inventory when you die:
/gamerule keepInventory true
One thing I love about Minecraft is the ability to customize certain game behaviors. You can find a list of the possible game rules in the Minecraft Wiki: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Commands/gamerule
I know I was just kidding, I’m not much of a rage quitter. I think I was under the impression that it would take me ages to find more and that I just got lucky. Thanks for the info though. I had no idea the capabilities of this game.
I remember my first death. I was in my first world on peaceful. After a few days of playing I was feeling confident so I turned it to easy. Then, I died in the dark cave behind my house. Good times...
Over time, I've learned, from your type experience, to listen to sounds as I mine or walk down a natural tunnel or one I've created. If I hear a glub-glub as I walk by a portion of the wall or floor, I know lava is somewhere close to that location. And as I learned, the hard way, when I start hacking into the wall where I heard the sound, I build myself a two high block of stone or cobblestone to stand on in case the lava is closer than I realize. So far, following this method, I've not singed a single hair on my head or lost a life. And make sure you don't dig straight down on the block you're standing on, or the block you're standing under.
Also if you don't play with high volume (you annoy people in the same room and you don't want to use earphones), turn on subtitles. They can show you if you miss the bubble sound, or the subtle walking of the creeper behind you before it goes off.
That is an awesome suggestion. I've been playing for 5 years now and I used that setting once but found it annoying cause I had my headphones on. Nowadays I play alot without sounds and totally forgot about that setting for subtitles. I'm gonna try that right now!

Enable subtitles. They will show all the sounds near you (Ex: Skeleton rattles, pig oinks, lava pops). Its very useful for not dying. Turn them on by going options —> music and sounds—> Click on subtitles. I use them, its saved me at least twice. Also, have fun with minecraft! Theres WAY more than meets the eye! Theres also datapacks that can help you not lose your stuff. (Player graves) I have downloaded one, they are safe to download. www.vanillatweaks.net/picker/datapacks/

Welcome to Minecraft. I've been playing since Alpha and still get caught in lava. Enjoy your game!
Mine and smelt 3 iron ore.
Make bucket.
Fill bucket with water and carry on you at all times.
Pour water over lava pools.
Mining near lava? Dump a bucket of water nearby.
Water will spread and cool exposed lava as you mine.
Set up a chest nearby. Find something nice? Go and put the stuff in chest .
Later, once you can brew potions, have an 8min fire resistance close at hand.
Imagine losing 6 stacks of diamond and a bunch of stacks of iron like me , then rage quit lol
Welcome to Minecraft.

That's a bummer, ain't it.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Minecraft. Prepare for many more deaths in even less satisfying ways throughout your journey! xD
