I've completed work on my horse speed measuring machine, which can measure how fast any horse goes in blocks per second, accurate to 0.2 of a second. The measuring circuit was based on a design i found on YouTube made by Reedim, but his design was only accurate 0.5 seconds, so i had to make my design 2.5 times longer to get the accuracy i wanted! Plus i enclosed it and made it a bit more building like. I also used Trip Wires for the measuring rather than the pressure plates that the original design used. The course is 80 blocks long (The building 100+), with trip wires active from blocks 20 to 80, so lots of redstone used! It has a piston door entrance at the start end, and once you've tested the horse, you can go down the other side to see what the speed bar has recorded. I've also coverted the open area outside at the finish end of the course into an open paddock for my horses to be kept in.
How does it work exactly? Does it measure total wires tripped in a certain amount of time determined by a clock?
Yeah, there is a wire at the start which begins the timer - in this case 5 seconds. Meanwhile from about block 20, you start tripping wires, each which powers a repeater which sends a signal thru a piston controlled block to a dropper to place an object in a hopper - the hopper is powered so it cant spit the object back out - the hopper having an item in it powers a redstone lamp via a comparator. When the 5 seconds has elapsed, it sends a signal which retracts all the pistons, which disables the droppers. Thus the last dropper/hopper combo activated sets the speed. A reset buttons pushes the blocks back and unpowers the hoppers temporarily to put any item they have back into the dropper.
I've built a room with an assembly table (from BuildCraft) with a few lasers (which power assembly tables) powered by a whole mess of stirling engines (which have a low output but only require furnace-compatible fuel to run). I can now make the redstone chipsets that I need for the powered tools from "BuildCraft Tools" (as well as the machines for charging them).
I have done more chocobo breeding (from ChocoCraft) but have only gotten green and yellow chocobos. I need a blue chocobo to get the higher-tier chocobos, but I've had no luck in getting one. I have a green chocobo of each gender, so the gender of the blue chocobo wouldn't matter.
I have started a new mine that is fairly shallow (that is, at a fairly high layer). I've done this since tin and copper (from Forestry) seem to generate more often near sea level. I'm in need of more copper (though I've got enough tin for quite some time), so finding it is fairly important to me.
Speaking of my mines, I've started laying mine cart tracks through my deep mining tunnel. I've got them running about half way down the tunnel.
I finally found a good spot for a nether portal (after lots of portable leading either over the lava ocean or underneath it (which is annoying as all heck ). I've got some quartz and I'll be building a charcoal maker some time soon.
I built an apiculture lab with a bunch of apiaries, so my beekeeping experiments are underway. I don't know much about beekeeping, though, so I'm going to have to do some research on the Forestry wiki. Luckily, they have a nice guide to it there. (Thank goodness for well-written wiki content! )
I used my Forestry "carpenter" machine to pack up some of my dirt into crates (with each crate containing 9 dirt blocks), so I've got that dirt taking up much less space now.
That's the story thus far!

The source of my intention isn't really crime prevention; my intention is prevention of the lie! Yeah, welcome to the Scatman's world!
Just had a major setback. Was exploring new found cave passages. Inventory was full. Was about to head home and drop of loot. Spotted an as yet unexplored tunnel. Decided to light it up before calling it quits. Big mistake. Some way down the passage I got hit by a witch's potion. Ran back out of harms way and drew my trusty bow. Soon as the witch came in to view I took her down. Returned to that same spot. Got hit by a witch's potion! This time I charged in and bested her. Didn't realize there were at least TWO witches attacking me! Couldn't respond fast enough. Respawn screen.
The death occurred in an most unfortunate spot. It had taken a long time to get there. The passage hard to find. Worse, it happened to be fairly near my base of operation. (I know this because I heard the unmistakable sounds of a heard of cows some five minutes earlier. The reclaim-gear timer began ticking the second I re-entered the game. To keep it short, I didn't find my goods. Gotta start afresh now.
I had enough diamonds on hand to make new sword and armor (thankfully I was not carrying my diamond pickax at the time) but afterward had few left in storage. Visited my skelly farm for a reasonably quick 38xp. Had bad luck on enchantments. My BP is okay, with +2 protection. But my leggings got +2 fire protection...not ideal. Darn sword got...yes you guessed it... +2 Bane of Arthropods...sigh. Didn't have enough xp for the new bow, but a skelly at the farm kindly dropped a power 1 / unbreaking 1 bow that will do me for a bit. Gonna see if I can create an enchanted book with power to beef it up.
I seem to have had a streak of luck in seeing rare mobs lately; first I found this yesterday:
And today I just encountered this:
Both were the first time I've ever encountered either (I almost saw two of the latter; a bolt of lighting struck just a few blocks away from another creeper).

Please tell me you encased the creeper in a glass box and gave him a stupid name.
My computer recently got infected with some weird malware that prevented most of my programs (but not all of them) from accessing the internet. (It was pretty weird since the wireless driver worked fine and only some programs were actually affected.) I got really frustrated since I couldn't find a fix for it and eventually decided to dump my hard drive to try to fix it. In my haste, I forgot to make an external backup of my MineCraft stuff, so I ended up losing all of it. Because of that, I have to start over.
I have most of the mods that I want installed (there are a few more, but I can just install them later) and have a new world started. I decided to find a seed myself instead of using one from YouTube. I went with a "theme" of rock album titles and ended up with "Triumph or Agony" (a Rhapsody of Fire album) and got a pretty decent spawn area. I'm not fond of the fact that there isn't a taiga near spawn and thus I don't have easy access to spruce wood (I'm on 1.6.4, so I would pretty much need to have access to a taiga to get spruce). There is a desert not too far from where I'm setting up my house, though; that's one of my criteria for whether I am willing to use a seed since I need sand for glass and cactus to make pipe sealant (from BuildCraft).
I haven't found a good flat area to build in, so I'm digging my house into the side of a hill and will probably be mostly building underground in this world. I kind of like building things underground, so it's not a huge problem for me.
I have a tree farm set up and am currently digging out the major rooms of my house.
I am having an issue with Not Enough Items where parts of the gui aren't showing up (specifically the "utility" commands and the item count chooser) and it won't give me items. I guess if I want to give myself items (I do cheat now and then) I'll have to use the /give command. Not a huge issue, I suppose.
I would revert to an earlier version of NEI, but the two plugins that I use to give me recipes for crafting stations from mods (such as the rolling machine from RailCraft) depend on the current version and the versions of those plugins for earlier versions of NEI aren't available.
That's the story thus far!

The source of my intention isn't really crime prevention; my intention is prevention of the lie! Yeah, welcome to the Scatman's world!
I have recently began toying with mods. I put some mods on my pc and my fiancee's pc then realized neither of us could connect to the other if one or both were using mods.
Then I fiddled around and managed to set up a server on my pc to allow us to use mods.
My favorite mods so far are Bibliocraft, Archimedes' Ships, and Carpenter's Blocks... though I learned that adding anything from carpenter's blocks to a ship crashes the game.
I love having my own airship to get around in, though I kind of feel like I'm cheating...
Personally, I wouldn't mind playing on a server with Bibliocraft so I could start my own library, might be fun...
I have made some progress on getting things set up both in my world and in my configuration.
In my configuration, I've started getting my Custom Recipes dictionary and recipe files rebuilt. I have some miscellaneous (sp?) recipes for vanilla things such as making wool into string as well as some recipes for things from mods such as making the backpacks from Backpack Mod using the cloth from Peaceful Pack.
I also have my Inventory Tweaks configuration started. I usually have a basic sorting rules file which just makes it put a light source (from a specific sorting order) in hotbar slot 9 and a workbench backpack from Backpack Mod in hotbar slot 8. (It also places a holster from Flintlock Weapons in the top-left slot since those need to be in that slot to have their effect.)
I also have my IngameInfoXML configuration mostly set up. There are a few details that I still need to add, but most of those won't be too much of an issue. The armor status information will be kind of a hassle to write, thoughl; the code to set up the different colors for different ranges of armor durability is kind of a hassle to work with.
In my world, I have the main rooms for my house dug out and have floorboards and walls put in a few of them. I've decided to have my farms inside of my house since the area around my house doesn't really have enough flat area for extensive farming. I am digging a "farm room" which currently has wheat planted (4 rows which are each 2m wide by 9m long) and I'm starting to make room for gysahl greens (from ChocoCraft).
While digging that room, I ran into a huge deposit of gravel which has been a pain to deal with. It will be useful for both flint (for arrows, mostly) and to make into sand using a rock crusher from RailCraft (with a very slim chance of giving a diamond for each block that is processed). Gravel would also make a nice ballast for mine cart tracks once I have those in my mining tunnel.
Speaking of my mining tunnel, I haven't really gotten started on it all that much. Digging out my house has occupied most of my time in that world.
I have an oak tree farm planted that has 60 trees. Thank goodness for TreeCapitator for both making it very easy to harvest them! It also makes harvesting my usual huge tree farms cost less durability on my axes since I have it set up to only take one use for each tree (as opposed to multiple uses per tree, which is the default).
That's the story thus far!

Today I finally finished my way-over-the-top villager house (but more like a castle!) / iron farm. The farm section is based on the one on NimsTV YouTube channel, but I embellished the villager bit into a full sized area with more villagers than I need for the golem spawning bit, but lots for trading. And I raised it up so the Iron collection point was ground level. And added some décor
I built a village that took up the entire map in survival. I never went in creative once and did not have host options on.
when the candy texture pack comes out for the xbox I will make a village called candy land in hard mode survival and the village will be a few blocks above ground.
The last time I played I just worked on making a large map of the area so I know where the hell everything is. I'm amazed at how easy I can get lost. I even managed to find a tree house I made weeks ago but never found back until I did the mapping.
What I'd like to do next is make an xp farm but having found an easy way of doing it yet. I need to watch some youtube videos on it.

Indeed, the original design in the YT clip didn't have that, but mine does have a 10-15 block run-up before the start wire is tripped.

Wow, I really like your style of building!
Wish I had some talent like that. Could some make some very pretty stuff.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
Please tell me you encased the creeper in a glass box and gave him a stupid name.
Please?
Uh? I didn't say it was a glass creeper. I said I hope he trapped the creeper in a glass box and named him with a name tag.
