Built an outpost near a river I found while exploring the Dark Oak woods around my main base. I'm going to gather some resources and start going upriver to see if I find anything interesting.
Oh man. This thread is making me want to play singleplayer again. Lately I've been a bit preoccupied with my server but I'm gonna start a singleplayer later today.
Alright so I started a new singleplayer last night and ran into a food problem (as I always do). So to stop this problem I invested a few hours digging it out, and gathering the seeds for my my megafarm. I went exploring and found two villages so I got potatoes and carrots. This took tons of work but I don't think I'll have a food problem for a looooonnnnnnnnnggggggggg time.
I ran around mining for a little while, then finally built a nether portal. Thankfully I ended up right on a nether fortress and spent the last 30 minutes gathering nether brick and blaze rods.
For me it's simply getting my new server running, All the plugins have been installed and finally open to the public yay! Thanks for all your help guys! couldn't done without you! The spawn castle looks and feels amazing, Nice job on getting the PVP disabled at spawn! Everything is beautiful and all the plug ins are configured exactly right. Essentials, Grief Prevention, World protect, no spawn PVP. anti-cheats. World is perfect and I know it will take a couple months to get a small player base going. So don't get discouraged it just takes time. Legit survival, fair game play no giving out stuff, no weather or night/day cycle interference! No gods! Special thanks to all my builders, plugin people and friends: razoraptor117, Greenman_11455, Mankit, and Flourian, you guys rock! p.s. a few warps have already been added to quickly get peeps out of spawn protection asap!
In post #2268 I mention having created a new MC world in v174. Here is a capture of what I think of more and more as my temporary base, as it appeared 2014-03-02:
There obviously isn't a lot to see. The capture faces west. My avatar stands part way up the hill on which I originally planned establish my main base. I now think the hill too small. I'll likely establish my base atop the hill seen at distance screen left. As to the temporary camp, most everything is below ground. I now have wheat, potato, carrot, pumpkin, cane and cactus patches in hollowed out caverns. There is of course extensive branch-mining at diamond level.
Since the above image was captured I removed the small outcropping of hill to the immediate right of the cobblestone tower, and added a medium size cattle pen to tower left. Only eight cows so far, two newly born. I want at least sixteen adults before I start harvesting them for their leather (books for enchantments and bookcases).
My emphasis the last two days has been on branch mining and spelunking. Not having much luck with diamonds, but getting plenty of everything else. Last play session I came across a zombie spawner with two chests. Between the two I came out with four name tags, gold and iron horse armor, and two enchanted books. Alas that both books were "Bane of Arthropods IV".
My avatar is geared mostly in iron armor, the exception being a diamond helm. All pieces are enchanted (as is his diamond sword), but current enchantments are rather crappy. I'll worry about good enchantments as he converts to diamond.
Haven't done a lot of exploration on the surface, but already found two villages and a desert temple. The temple housed a VERY nice enchanted book, though I forget what it is.
I close with another image, captured within the safety pen just outside my camp entrance door:
No real point to this one, except I like the look of the modded sky at moonset.
ADDENDUM:
I logged on to my long established MC world this morning, thinking to work on the NPC village I was in the process of fixing up until burnout caused me to go on sabbatical last year. Nothing came of it.
I have enchanted a diamond pickaxe with Efficiency IV, and Unbreaking III, (Obsidian mines so fast!) a diamond sword with Sharpness IV, and a bow with Power IV.
I have also made a nether portal hub that uses the Nether's 1:8 ratio to travel a lot faster, allowing me to go to biomes 6,000 blocks away from me, in about 700 nether blocks. One of the nether portal hubs goes to a mushroom biome (I used Amidst to find the coordinates) that's about 6,900 blocks away. (Through the nether, it's only 786 blocks) I brought two mooshroom cows to my house by leading them away from their mushroom biome into the nether with wheat, where I led them through the 786 nether-distance blocks to my house.
I swear I have the worst luck with enchantments this go round. Not only did I find two "Bane of Arthropods IV" books in a dungeon chest, but my very first self-created enchanted book was "Bane of Arthropods I". Made my first diamond breastplate and got "Fire Protection I". Made two more enchanted books, hoping for "Protection I" or better. Both became "Smite I" I do have adequate "Projectile Protection", "I" two individual armor pieces. I believe the remaining piece has "Blast Protection I" but could be wrong. Right now leather is in short supply so I can't make a ton of books hoping for better regular Protection.
Well, I just finished mining out a ravine to the best of my ability. The water ladder blocked some ore, but I got a ton of iron and coal anyways so it's not a problem.
Ravine from the bottom; it's in a jungle.
I've got a small house in the desert at the edge of the jungle. It's pretty cramped, but I spend most of my time elsewhere so it's not a problem. The thingy is a sieve from Ex Nihilo; I use it to get rid of all my dirt.
There's also a stable for ostriches (Mo' Creatures). I don't have any ostriches hatched yet, though. I just haven't gotten around to it.
I've got two farms; a jungle giant covered in cocoa beans (which I now have far too many of), and a small plot of land. I've got enough meat to last a while so I can postpone enlarging it.
I'm planning to head off in search of some bee hives soon. Should probably start making apiaries...
As of now, that's everything important. I'll post updates when something important happens. I have to give a special shout-out to Mr_N_Derman; that's an awesome base if I ever saw one.
Demolished a large chunk of a birch forest near my buddy's place and replaced it with oak and spruce. I then continued to chop down and replant the new types so now I have a massive amount of wood. I still haven't decided what to build yet...
After not playing for 2 months, I started playing again and made a new world. It turned out really cool, with multiple forest islands generated near each other. House isn't to detailed yet, but I like the exterior look:
Trapdoor leads to basement, which I plan to be highly detailed and extensive:
And a pic in Soartex Fanver. Think it looks better?
I built a glass house then chucked a rock!!! not really... I did build a glass house/ garden/ treefarm/ wool farm.... I've yet to get a fishing rod and tame a kitten!!!! Meow!

Been building my first city. Starting with the docks and market district.
Got sidetracked by locating a zombie spawner closeish to the city (~150blocks away) and amd currently making a purification system.
I will then populate the market district with the correct villagers. (eg: blacksmith / weapons shops get blacksmiths, bookstore gets a librarian, etc).

Soo many projects, started building a massive mansion for my new base, currently working on the underground transportation hub on it.
Also decided to map my area, taking advantage of the "new" map/item frame mechanics, I'm doing a 3x3 wall of max sized maps. Having lots of fun exploring the new 1.7 features in the process (Started my world in 1.0 and explored a lot then so its a long way out.
While exploring I came across some horses, so I built a small town (Read: Barn, hut, mine, tiny farm) to hold them until I could build a nicer horse stable/test track nearer my base. Unfortunately I brilliantly built my mansion on an island, it's really cool, but makes transporting horses in hard. So I'll build a bridge! 300 blocks to the mainland to the north, where the horses are.
I'll post a few pics soon if anyone wants to see
