Started migrating to a new home 3k blocks away on a MP server. Everyone kept over lapping each other in our underground mines, so I decided to get away and mine from my own place.
Well, i've broken out of my 'purist' shell and tested a mod called 'Metallurgy'. I love mining and since it adds so many new ores to the game, I had to try it. I'm now considering heavily modding my minecraft with a ton of other forge mods.
I built a system to collect lava from the Nether and get it to the Overworld in cans. This consists of a Buildcraft pump to collect the lava into golden waterproof pipes, which is then fed into both a Liquid Transposer and Magmatic Engine (from Thermal Expansion). The Liquid Transposer takes empty cans from an Ender Chest (the Chicken Bones Ender Storage kind, not the vanilla Minecraft kind), fills them with lava then feeds them back to another Ender Chest. I have the input chest labelled blue, blue, blue, while the output chest is labelled red, red, red. So far I haven't figured out a way to do this with a single pair of Ender Chests, as the wooden transport pipe pulled out full lava cans first rather than the empty ones.
Both chests are linked to ones with the same colors in my base in the Overworld, and there is also a Chunk Loader (from Chicken Bones Chicken Chunks mod) so that everything still runs while I'm not there. To control all the machines from my base, I am using yet another of Chicken Bones' mods - Wireless Redstone, which works across dimensions. I can flip a switch, wait for the Redstone Engines powering the pump to heat up, and start collecting lava.
I plan to store all that lava in a Buildcraft tank, or maybe even make a Railcraft storage tank. It will then be used to power 3 or 4 more Magmatic Engines through Redstone Conduits to run an expanded Thermal Expansion machines line.
The lava source I am pumping from in the Nether looks like it is fairly large; this may solve my fuel needs forever. I can also fill tin cells for my IC2 Geothermal Generator. Though I have less of a need for this now that I am only using it to power an MFE for charging tools and my Lappack.
Finished my Iron Golem farm, collected four stacks of iron blocks with it (so happy!), built a railtrack connecting my Iron farm to the place I live in, where I have all my animal farms and crops. There I also built my level-adjusting enchantment room with a nice piston door and a brewing room underneath my cozy cottage.
I am currently gathering materials to build a zombie exp. farm since I've found a zombie spawner right by my iron farm. The finding is just too convenient to ignore, even though zombies, I reckon, aren't the best things for experience.
I upgraded my Thermal Expansion line with a new power transfer system, new engines and a few extra machines. In addition, I built a Railcraft Iron Tank to store all that lava I have been pumping from the Nether.
The new power transfer system is Redstone Energy Conduits and a Redstone Energy Cell (stores 600,000 MJ - Buildcraft energy units). Power is provided by 4 TE Magmatic Engines, which run off the lava from the tank. Liquiducts from TE carry it from the Iron Tank to the engines, an Igneous Extruder (converts lava/water into cobblestone, stone or obsidian), and my IC2 Geothermal Generator powering the MFE I use for recharging tools and my Lappack. A TE Liquid Transposer empties lava cans into the Iron Tank. I'm also using it for IC2 Lava Cells, which I no longer need.
I also went dungeon exploring, looking for a Portal Gun. Since so many people complained about that mod being OP, iChun made it so you need a Nether Star to make one. Or you can find one in dungeon loot. I searched several dungeons without finding one, though I did get some good loot, such as a couple music discs, a Thaumium axe, Thaumium sword, 2 Thaumium ingots, a diamond and some Knowledge Fragments. The Thaumium items, diamond and fragments were all found in a Thaumcraft dungeon, which are a bit tougher to conquer than the vanilla type. Those have a skeleton and a zombie spawner, plus a Dark Aura node which occasionally spawns Wisps. Finally, I tried a skeleton dungeon near the surface, and found the Potato Portal Gun in a chest. This is called such because it has a potato (which talks) on it.
And just now I upgraded my Lappack to the Advanced Lappack. This uses a Lapotron Crystal (6 lapis, 2 electronic circuits and an Energy Crystal), an Advanced Circuit and the Lappack, and stores 1,000,000 EU. Now I can go mining 3x longer.
I started a branch mine about 400 blocks east of my base under a Wasteland biome. I built a rail line to there, using my Railcraft Rolling Machine to make the Standard and Advanced rails. I also used some Creosote Oil from the same mod to make the railbed.
Making rails using Railcraft is far more complex than using iron, sticks, gold and redstone. But the normal rails allow greater speed over long distances. I can put a booster track every 24 blocks and not lose speed significantly. This could not be done with vanilla Minecraft.
I had earlier upgraded my Lappack as I was going to be using my Mining Laser to make the main tunnels in the mine, but soon found out that it uses a lot of power, 1250 EU per shot. The mine is going to be 200x200 in area, and I found that a 1x2 tunnel 200 blocks long used about 17% of the Lappack's total energy. So that after 6 tunnels, it was drained and I had to go back to my base to recharge it.
Checking my IC2 chest, I found I had enough Iridium Plate to make the first of the top tier items in the Gravitation Suite addon for IC2: the Ultimate Lappack. This was a pretty expensive recipe, requiring 5 iridium Plate (I had 7), a gold ingot, 6 diamonds, and some other IC2 specific items (8 Advanced Alloy, 12 Electronic Circuits, 6 Carbon Plate, 2 Glass Fibre Cables). Most of these items except the diamonds and circuits were used to make 3 Superconductors. Only 1 was used in the recipe, leaving 2 left over.
The Ultimate Lappack stores 10,000,000 EU, the same as an MFS Unit, and can be fully recharged in one in only 25 seconds. It can also be charged in an MFE, though you will only get 600,000 EU out of it.
I also made one of the newer Thaumcraft3 discoveries, the Crystal Cluster. These can be made of various single types of the 5 main crystals, or a mixed type using all 5. When placed, they can increase an area's Aura rating slightly, though the Flux can also increase, though not as much. It is one of the steps toward Aura manipulation and an endgame item in the mod that requires a Nether Star to make.
And I thought I was good lol, these pictures and stories of peoples creations are just mind blowing! I feel bad and I've been playing minecraft since early alpha.
I caught and banned the the griefer. Now I can build again. Thought I'd start with a lovely 50x50 house, then maybe a few castles, nice player statues. Then maybe some terraforming. Haven't had much time lately.
I finished re-working my storage room. I have a sorting machine for my farm items, and a bunch of other chests for the rest of the stuff. I still have to better integrate my chicken cooker, as it got blocked off by the sorting machine. I finished my basement level in Nether brick finally, it contains my enchanting room, potion room, and nether portal. I found a skeleton spawner while strip mining, so I built an XP farm around it. It works pretty well. I can go AFK for about an hour and get to 30 XP off of it, so that's nice. I have secret tunnels to my storage room and my mine, and I finished them in quartz block, with a ceiling of glowstone. It looks like a clean room. I might finish the drops into the storage room and mine in the quartz as well... but I have to collect a bit more of it before I do that.
My melon farm is fully functional, and is triggered by pigs, so I just let it go. Everything drops into the collection streams and ends up at the sorter. I have to do the same for cactus and sugarcane still. I also need to build harvesting features into the other farms (wheat, carrots, potatoes.) I think I'll have a sorter at the wheat farm so that the wheat goes to my storage room to be sorted, while the seeds stay at the farm to be re-planted. Don't know what I'll do with carrots and potatoes... as I want them to go to storage, but I also need them to re-plant... hmmm.
I demolished my original lake side wooden stilt house in favor of a castle on the cliff above, but then decided the castle was too small and am now in the process of building a fortress with an obsidian tower at it's heart. There is a volcanic like mountain above the fortress, so I'm planning on building a village up there at some point. This seed is pretty sweet. Where I decided to build, the nether portal opens next to a nether fortress. Beneath my house at level 30-11 is a huge ravine with plenty of diamonds and emeralds, along with an abandoned mine with zombie spawners. Right outside my fortress wall is a lava pit with another zombie spawner, maybe 5-10 blocks from the surface. I was out collecting chickens when I heard the lava bubbling and dug down into it.
I dug a 20x30 quarry, then expanded one of my panic tunnels to go into it. Used rails to transport villagers into my quarry (walled off section with fence, used a fence gate so they won't go into my panic tunnel) and built apartments for them. Then a green house with melons and pumpkins.

Named after the greatest adventurer to ever play (myself of course!)!
Also a shrine to said person (me) over looking all who enter the greatest of continents!
And lastly my castle, located adjacent to said shrine to said person (ME!)!
